by Lynn Hayes With Venus retrograde and having just transited the Sun, its energy is still powerful and I wanted to share some other articles and viewpoints that may be of interest.
- In my own article on the 2012 Transit of Venus I wrote about the ancient archetype of Venus as the more powerful Innana and Ishtar. Beth Owls Daughter has a wonderful article offering even more details about the deeper layers of the Venus archetype. Innana was also associated with the planet Venus as Morning Star and Evening Star, but exhibited more of a transformative power than her later Greek and Roman counterpart Venus Aphrodite.
- Rachel Maddow connected the Transit of Venus with the recall election in Wisconsin that was supposed to unseat Governor Walker. The recall election failed, which just goes to show that you can’t always use an astrological event for political prediction. There are just too many factors involved. (More on that later.)
- Fox News quoted astrologers Susan Miller and Shelley Ackerman. Susan Miller said, ““The Mayans watched Venus obsessively, and had to have known that the end of their calendar would occur at the perfect time, in the same year as the transit of Venus,” Miller said, noting the Mayans were “terrified” of Venus. While it’s true that the Mayans were keen observers of Venus, to say they were terrified of Venus is rather ridiculous, in my opinion. Shelley’s predictions were more along the lines of technological breakthroughs because of the Gemini connection.
- Michael Erlewine writes for astrology.com that under the Venus transit women will learn to better express the divine feminine and stop trying to behave like men. I will attempt to refrain from making personal judgments here!
My favorite article is from our friend Eric Francis of Planet Waves who admits that any astrological significance of the Venus Transit lies in its singularity – the fact that it is such a rare event. He interviews astrology Adam Gainsbourg who is somewhat of a specialist in Venus energy, who says:
What becomes illuminated is how your feminine aspect self-radiates into the world — what you uniquely have to give to the improvement of our planet.” He adds, “The solar feminine is, literally, our ‘light body’. She’s the one inside each of us who leaves nothing uncovered, nothing unfelt. We experience the full range of our actual feelings as her body.” Yet the Sun is expressive, so this is about being moved to take creative action.
“The Solar feminine is a confrontational idea for many religions because her very existence fundamentally challenges the fragmentary, long-held assumption of masculine spiritual superiority. By re-acknowledging her, we begin to re-empower her. The solar feminine shines not just through the success and expression of women, but through the power of a man’s emotions received in his heart.”
The symbology of the Transit of Venus is the intervention of Venus between our earthly existence and the Sun. Venus is the intermediary that takes our requests for love and happiness to the solar deity and translates them back to us. Astrological Venus represents our values and the way we view the world as well as our ability to love and connect with others, and the Transit of Venus can only happen when Venus is traveling retrograde. The sense here for me is that we are being called to re-evaluate our values and the things in our lives that are most important.
When the new Miss America pranced down the runway in a pink, very see through swim suit, (check out the pix for yourself), I thought, now there is Venus exposing (eclipse) herself in front of Zeus and the whole world. The feminine on total, in your face, up staging the Sun, view!

My Venus transit was totally fun. I won some money at the casino, then we went and closed the local karaoke bar. Talk about Venus exposing herself, singing in front of a bunch of strangers is all of that! Too bad I have to wait 105 years for the next one. :)
Interesting observation on Susan Miller. I used to read her forecasts, faithfully, ever month. Not anymore. Her writings just do not resonate with me anymore, at all. Good info here, as usual, Lynn. Thanks.
While the solar feminine isn’t hugely known there are solar goddesses; Amaterasu in Japan and Aine in Ireland for some examples.
Interesting! Thanks KaD.
the Cherokee also have the sun as a Divine Feminine and in central europe/western russia, one finds the three Zoryas who care for the dawn, the day and the twilight.
my mom and I went to a local nature center’s transit event and got to see the history in process. way cool! as a pagan, I’m all about the rise of the Goddess and the balancing of our world.
great article as usual, Lynn
Thanks Cayce!
