I recently discovered that I have never written anything specific to this opposition, which is a very important dynamic in the charts of many people born between the early 1950s and the late 1980s. In all, the opposition occurred a total of 41 times, beginning with Chiron in Capricorn opposite Uranus in Cancer in the early 1950s and ending with Chiron in Cancer and Uranus in Capricorn in the late 1980s.
This phenomenon occurs because of the elliptical orbit of Chiron (thanks to Petr of Astro-Seek for the image). With Chiron spending less than three years in the signs between Cancer and Sagittarius and just over three years in Capricorn, unlike planets with nearly circular orbits Chiron’s eccentricity leads to irregular intervals in its aspects with other celestial bodies. This irregularity means long gaps between certain alignments, like oppositions with Uranus.
Individuals with this aspect often have difficulty with the enormous energy that is created by the polarization of these two planets. On an energetic healing level, Chiron is associated with kundalini energy – the life-sustaining force in the body. Uranus is energetically associated with the electromagnetic force field that surrounds the body (the “aura”). Individuals with Chiron in aspect to Uranus, particularly the opposition, have a direct line into the healing force (found in many modalities of energy healing) once they have been able to balance those opposing force within their own bodies.
The Chiron/Uranus opposition is often associated with anxiety and because it requires a transmutation of energy it can be extremely intense. It is prevalent in the charts of people who do healing work, but it is also commonly found in people who have drug addictions as they seek to medicate the intensity of their experiences. Often people with this opposition become drawn to energy healing modalities such as Reiki, both for themselves and as a tool for helping to heal others. In fact, I always suggest Reiki as a tool to manage these energies and nine times out of ten the client with this opposition have already worked with Reiki!
An important thing to note is that this aspect will be activated during transits of Uranus and Chiron, especially the Uranus aspects at age 20-22, 40-42, 61-63, 83-84 and the Chiron return at age 50-52. These times are often associated with kundalini crises of some sort that may require support from experienced practitioners.
The discovery of Chiron in the late 1970s and the introduction of these Chiron/Uranus energies in the late 20th century has been instrumental in the explosion of awareness of alternative healing modalities. I believe this will be more and more important as we move into the era of Pluto in Aquarius and a greater dependence on new technologies that interact more intimately with the human experience.
Many thanks to Barbara Hand Clow whose books have informed and shaped my understanding of this topic, and to the many clients with this aspect who have taught me even more.
I have Chiron in 9th House Pisces and Uranus/ Pluto in 3rd Virgo. In my 2nd Saturn Return now (more Pisces 9th). I’m.an Alexander Technique teacher (Sun Sag in 6th) who can attest to all those ages ranges being intense (but for the ultimate good). I also came to what I do out of a need to heal myself.
Thanks Rebecca for taking the time to share your story. 💖
Thank you for this Lynn. As always, you’re spot on and reading this reaffirms my experiences!
Thank you Julie! I think I remember you are one of these Chiron Uranus people. 🤩
Hi Lynn. I am also one of the Chiron-Uranus people. Uranus is currently squaring my natal Neptune. I have studied Reiki mostly for myself, and I have been a therapist, which I came to also first to heal myself before offering therapy. Currently (since 2023) I have Pluto transiting my 6th House, conjunct Chiron –It’s been a time of health issues and surgeries. But also lots of healing. The conjunction lasts through the end of 2025. I’m wondering how the Uranus-Chiron opposition will add to all of this. Thanks for bringing this to my awareness.
Hi Janine, I hope you don’t mind but I realized I have your chart on file and took a look, you actually don’t have Chiron opposing Uranus. Your Chiron is at 0 Aquarius (currently transited by Pluto) but Uranus in your chart is at 24 Cancer. Pluto would have already opposed Uranus a few years ago so that shouldn’t be an issue. The Pluto transit to Chiron, especially in the 6th house of body/mind/spirit balance, suggests that it’s important to take care to strengthen and integrate your psycho/emotional/spiritual system. 💖
Hi Lynn
I have Virgo 9th house along with Uranus 9th at 7’56″but in Libra and Chiron in Aries 3rd house at 8’55”.
Would this be considered Chiron opposing Uranus?
The ages you mentioned absolutely relate to (twice big ) health related crisis for me And my life has been all about balancing (everything from my body to my mind to my relationships or lack of -and finding out why) to more deeply personal issues. I recently signed up for Jin Shin Do acupressure course. Ambivalence tells me to cancel it as I am not sure I feel comfortable offering healing services that can be found online…
I tend to think being in a leadership facilitating music groups could be easier but then I have to deal with the fact that there is no guaranteed income….and then again I know this year is all about endings so why not try something anything and see where it goes right?
Hi Tan, if you have Uranus at 7’56” in Libra and Chiron at 8’55” Aries – yes, this is the Chiron/Uranus opposition. It sounds like you need to spend some time really digging deep to see what resonates with you. Virgo tends to be overanalytic, as you know, but under all the ambivalence there are probably clues to what would feel right.
