Chiron is like a traveling healer, migrating through the signs and revealing where we are carrying soul wounds that need to be healed before we can evolve. Chiron has been in Aries for the past eight years or so, revealing soul wounds around identity and personal agency. Now Chiron moves into Taurus where it will spend about seven years teaching us about self-worth and abundance. In Aries we discover our identity, but in Taurus we become embodied, and this will be a theme over the next seven years or so.
About Chiron
The sound bite definition for Chiron is that it represents the “wounded healer,” a term that originates in psychiatry where a wounded individual attempts to heal others. But that doesn’t really reflect the impetus that Chiron offers to heal the wounds of the soul that create energy blockages which cause psychological, emotional and physical distress. Chiron in the natal chart shows where those wounds can be found, and the key to healing. Chiron is also associated with mentorship since having healed the wounds of the soul, we often find ourselves inspired to help others.
Chiron is often associated in common mythology with the primitive race of the Centaurs (Kentauri), bestial creatures who represent the animal nature of man. But Chiron (Kheiron) has a completely different lineage – as the illegitimate son of Saturn with Philyra he was half divine and half mortal – and not of the Centaur race which were the offspring of a cloud and a king. Originally described as mere monsters, they only in later accounts took on the horse-man shape. Source. I make this distinction because Chiron’s astrological role is to form a bridge between our human suffering and our divine blueprint – to aid us in processing and releasing the pain of the past so that we can be free. For this reason, I find the name “Soul Healer” to be more apt for Chiron. Read more about Chiron here.
Chiron in Taurus
Chiron was last in Taurus from 1977 to 1984, a time marked by a shift from liberalism under Chiron in Aries to conservative leadership. A fixed sign, Taurus prefers security and that which is known to the kind of unfettered experimentation of the 1970s, and this led to the elections of Margaret Thatcher in the UK and Ronald Reagan in the US in the early 1980s. Taurus is associated with financial security and wealth, and this period saw the rise of economic hardship all over the world as the result of global oil prices and drastic inflation. The problem of homelessness and wealth inequality also began to rise, either in spite of or because of the conservative austerity measures meant to improve the economy. This period also marks the rise of unprecedented levels of income inequality.
We are in an era today when a similar economic shock is expected as yet another middle east war drives oil prices to stratospheric levels. Under Pluto in Aquarius the rise of artificial intelligence is affecting the labor force, and there could be pain points that are similar to what occurred in the 1980s.
On the positive side, however, there was also a rise in environmentalism under Chiron in Taurus (Taurus is associated with plants and things that grow on the Earth as well as the soil and food which nourish us).
Personal effect of Chiron in Taurus
Ruled by Venus, Taurus governs ideas of self-worth and the things that we value. With Chiron in Taurus, all of our values will be under scrutiny. How we handle the distribution of wealth, feeding the hungry, and helping the poor are all areas which are likely to be affected.
If you have planets in the fixed signs (Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius) they will be affected most directly by Chiron’s passage through Taurus making this an important time to consider and reframe issues of self-esteem and belief systems which may be holding you back. It’s also an important time to rediscover the small pleasures of an embodied life.
Chiron’s astrological role is to promote the integration of the body, mind, spirit system and to achieve balance in the body’s energetic framework. We can prepare for any Chiron event by doing a self-assessment to see how well our life patterns are supporting our own health and the health of our communities and how well we can integrate the stewardship of the Earth into these patterns.
Chiron will enter Taurus on June 24th but will station at 0º Taurus before retrograding back into Aries on September 23rd.
It will re-enter Taurus on April 21, 2027 and remain in Taurus until 2033.
**Between 2028 and 2039 Chiron will square Pluto a total of five times. Watch this space for more information.
