Trigger warning: This post contains references to sexual abuse and suicide.
Updated with accurate birth time. Virginia Guiffre, the primary and most public of the Epstein accusers, took her own life yesterday. This chart is set for noon since no time is available and without an accurate time we don’t know if her Moon was in late Leo or early Virgo.
In any case there are some difficult chart features that would have been activated over the past few years as Pluto transited the late degrees of Capricorn. Most notably, her Mars in Cancer was exactly square to the natal Pluto/Saturn conjunction – this is a very challenging conflict between an afflicted Mars and the two heavies of the astrological chart. Mars squared by Pluto often denotes a childhood featuring some kind of violence or abuse, and Mars squared by Saturn suggests oppression.
As horrific as the Jeffrey Epstein situation was, it was not her first incidence of abuse. She had said that she was sexually abused (Mars square Pluto) by a family friend (Mars/Cancer) at the age of 7 (some sources say 11) which drove her into foster homes and ultimately homelessness where she was solicited and then apparently held captive by pimp Ron Eppinger (source: Wikipedia and multiple news articles). At the age of 14 she was able to move in with her father who worked at Mar-A-Lago where she was recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell in 2000 when transiting Pluto squared her natal Venus. Astrologers will recognize that ages 7 and 14 are early cycles of Saturn – at age 7 transiting Saturn would have squared her natal Saturn/Pluto and opposed her Mars, and at 14 the stressful cycle would return with the Saturn opposition.
As a triple Leo, with Sun, Moon and Ascendant all in the sign that needs to shine and be seen by others (and themselves), Virginia would have learned as a small child what would most reliably get her the recognition she craved. Sadly this was her beauty and sex appeal. On the positive side, though, this is likely the fuel which enabled her to step out onto the front line of the scandal and ensure that Epstein was imprisoned.
This is obviously a terribly challenging chart would have required a great deal of therapy to process and heal. Why some people have difficult charts is a philosophical discussion that I’ve written about before. The only reason that makes sense to me is that since we are born with these charts before anything happens to us, and then the chart reflects the outer life even if the person knows nothing about astrology, there is a karmic force of fate at work. Some of these karmic forces can be healed and overcome, and perhaps for Virginia the healing process began when she “broke free” of the control of Epstein and Maxwell under a series of Uranus transits and married her husband with whom she had three children.
Sadly they separated earlier this year and her husband was given custody of their three children. She was charged for violating a family violence restraining order in February and shortly afterwards reported that she was in renal failure after a traffic accident. However police reports did not reveal any injuries.
Midlife is a challenge for everyone, but most especially for those with complex charts such as this. Transiting Saturn hit the Mars/Saturn/Pluto system in 2020 and an Instagram photo shows Virginia in the hospital for an unnamed reason, although she looks bruised and rather beat up. The square of transiting Pluto to natal Pluto can bring up long buried psychological injuries, and for Virginia this would have been especially painful throughout 2023 and into 2024. In late 2023 she underwent a series of spinal surgeries according to Instagram posts, although no cause was given. It’s not uncommon for charts with traumatic Saturn placements to coincide with a variety of back problems, and a series of difficult transits in 2023 would have exacerbated this (Pluto square natal Saturn, Saturn square natal Chiron and Uranus, and more).
As someone with a difficult chart myself, I know very well how challenging certain periods can be. I feel an endless sadness that Virginia was not able to find the help she needed to get past this chasm of despair and find peace and even happiness on the other side.
