I began this post intending to write about Taylor Swift’s re-emergence into the public eye and her new relationship. But as I often do, I got sidetracked instead to the rabbit hole of Ms. Swift’s birth time.

I first wrote about Taylor Swift in 2010. At the time we didn’t have a birth time for her, but in 2015 a biography was published that cited a birth time of 5:17 am (first page chapter two). Astro.com quotes a time of 8:36 from an unnamed source on Swift’s Facebook fan page, and this birth time is also cited in another biography (page 2). These are two very different birth charts with different rising signs, or ascendants.

The planets and signs. Let’s look first at the basics of the chart:

  • The Sun is in Sagittarius, the lucky and optimistic sign that can be somewhat fickle. Her Sun is unaspected, meaning it doesn’t interact with any of the other planets in the chart.  People with unaspected Sun’s tend to have a path that is more solitary, even though they may (and frequently do) engage in relationships with others and even marry.  But still, singleton Sun people make their own way and tend not to merge their lives with anyone else’s (Brad Pitt has a singleton Sun).
  • The Moon is domiciled in the family-oriented sign of Cancer, and it conjoins Jupiter which expands her love for the people that she chooses to make her tribe. However, Uranus, planet of rebellion, opposes the Moon/Jupiter combo and enhances the already independent Sagittarius influence.
  • Speaking of independence, her Venus is in detached Aquarius and it too is unaspected (using major Ptolemaic aspects).
  • Mars is in its domicile in Scorpio where the sharp tongue and long-held resentments are able to be expressed fully and without hesitation. Mars is the third planetary body in the chart to make no aspects to other planets.
  • Saturn is in Capricorn, the third planetary body in its domicile or home sign, revealing her incredible work ethic. Planets that are in the sign which they rule tend to have a stronger influence than in other signs.
    • There are four planets in Capricorn and the desire to achieve something lasting is of primary importance.

Now let’s look at the two different birth times.

The 5:17 am Scorpionic chart.

  • Here we have Scorpio rising, and Mars at the ascendant. This is a triple Scorpionic whammy: Scorpio rising ruled by Mars, Mars in its domicile in Scorpio, Mars angular at the ascendant and therefore more powerful. In Scorpio.
  • The Sun is in the first house where the personality is able to shine brightly to the public.
  • The 8th house Moon and Jupiter continue the theme of Scorpio, as Scorpio, as the 8th sign, is related to the 8th house of experiences with others which transform us.
  • In fact the primary houses that are activated in the house are the 2nd house of personal resources and the 8th house of shared resources.
  • The 7th house of marriage and partnership is untenanted (empty), and its ruler Venus is unaspected. This suggests that marriage is relatively unimportant.
  • Virgo is on the midheaven and there are no planets in the 10th house of vocation, suggesting someone who prefers not to be in the limelight (Virgo) with no real inner pressure to have a particular career.
  • What the transits say. Looking only at the challenging transits to the angles (which are determined by time of birth), significant dates would have been:
    • 2015-2016 (Neptune opposite MC and Saturn square MC)

The 8:36 am Capricornian chart.

  • Capricorn is rising in this chart, and this time we have a double whammy involving Saturn. Saturn rules the Capricorn ascendant, and Saturn is in Capricorn which it rules.
  • The Sun is in the 12th house where we tend to prefer to work behind the scenes, but there are four other planets in the 1st house of personality which would make her more personally available. 12th house people are typically very reserved and need lots of alone time.
  • The ascendant/descendant axis is activated by this chart, with Mercury on the ascendant and Jupiter on the descendant. This axis describes the way we balance our own personality development (ascendant) with our relationships with others (descendant).
  • The Scorpionic Mars is in the 11th house of social groups, suggesting someone who is active in groups like this and needs to take a leadership role.
  • Pluto in the 10th house of vocation and since Mars and Pluto are the dual rulers of the Scorpio Midheaven, this puts a tremendous amount of power in that house.
  • The Moon rules the 7th house and lives in the 6th house of work environment and health, suggesting that she would partner with people that she works with.
  • What the transits say. Looking only at the challenging transits to the angles (which are determined by time of birth), significant dates would have been:
    • 2011-2014 (Uranus square ascendant, Pluto conjunct ascendant, Saturn conjunct MC, progressed MC conjunct Mars.)
    • 2018-2020 (Saturn conjunct ascendant, Uranus opposite Midheaven)

Timeline. The most significant times from Ms. Swift’s life appear to be these:

  • 2014-2015: Awarded Billboard artist of the year
  • 2015-2016: The Kanye and dating dramas. It is later revealed that she is dating the very private Joe Alwyn.
  • 2017: She goes into virtual hiding amidst assault trial.
  • 2019: She begins to emerge into the public eye.

Conclusions. It’s difficult to draw conclusions based on what we think we know about someone, and the data here are inconclusive. That said, I feel like the Capricorn rising 8:36 am chart is the most accurate from what I can tell. Those middle years of the Kanye drama and what we learned in the Miss Americana documentary of her eating disorder and retreating from the public eye to me reflects the Pluto/ascendant transit of the 8:36 am chart.

Also, the 5:17 am chart doesn’t reflect her incredible success. Virgo on the midheaven of an empty 10th house is typically not someone who pursues the expression of her talents as relentlessly as Ms. Swift has.

I’ll continue to update this information as we learn more. Meanwhile I apologize to those of you who came here looking for a scoop on her relationships; I will cover that in the next installment!
