Uranus Pluto conjunction

Why do some people have difficult charts, 1966 edition

As someone with a difficult chart myself, I have long pondered this question.  For me, nothing other than astrology supports the idea of working out issues, problems and situations through multiple lifetimes.  We are born with these charts before anything happens to us, and when we have a difficult chart and our life patterns echo the patterns in the chart, it’s difficult to blame our parents or our upbringing for these situations.  I find this comforting – the knowing that there is a rhyme and reason to personal challenges gives me a sense of purpose and helps to make […]

RIP Peter Fonda and Woodstock: An end, finally, to the 1960s

Image borrowed from Pitchfork

There are few more iconic images of the 1960s (or what astrologers call the Uranus Pluto conjunction) than Peter Fonda in the film Easy Rider and the Woodstock music festival. Both took place in 1969, technically after the end of the big planetary conjunction that brought together the planet of radical change and destroyer of the status quo (Uranus) and the planet of destruction and total transformation (Pluto) in the sign of convention and conservative […]

Sunday inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr.

The political chaos that we are now experiencing seems to follow every alignment between Uranus (radical change) and Pluto (destruction and transformation).  Today’s chaos is the result of the tumultuous change fostered by the challenging square between Uranus and Pluto between 2010 and 2017.  Martin Luther King Jr.’s voice emerged during the Uranus/Pluto conjunction of the mid-1960s when the civil rights movement came to a head.  There was a great debate at the time between Malcolm X, who called for disruption and violence where necessary, and Dr. King, who sought nonviolence […]

The Astrology of the Summer of Love

Summer of Love astrology Summer of Love by Peter Max

It’s hard to believe for anyone who is old enough to have lived through the summer of 1967 which was called the Summer of Love, but this marks the 50th anniversary of that fertile and creative time when traditional values of love and community were turned on its head and some of the best music ever created was born.

Astrologers have a name for what happened in the 1960s: We call it the “Uranus Pluto conjunction.”  During this time Uranus, planet of revolution and […]

Sinead O’Connor and the Chiron/Pluto Cry for Help

9781720752_17ac4105b6_zSinead O’Connor, the Irish singer with a long history of controversy and dramatic life events, was recently in the news after a post on her Facebook page claimed that she had taken an overdose and was in an unnamed hotel.  She was eventually found and was not harmed, but her apparent mental illness has become a topic of discussion in the entertainment news circles.

Between 1962 and 1968 or so, Uranus (radical behavior) and Pluto (destruction and rebirth) were aligned in a conjunction in the sky, the last time these two planets were locked in […]

The Meltdown of Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen astrologyI didn’t want to write about Charlie Sheen in the middle of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan when Uranus entered Aries, or when Neptune entered Pisces, equally big news from an astrological perspective, or when Pluto turned retrograde this weekend. But now that things are settling down a little astrologically I think it’s time for a little comic relief in the form of a look at the astrology of Charlie Sheen.

In 2009, when Sheen was arrested for threatening his then-wife with a knife, I wrote this profile:

Charlie […]

In the news: Zecharia Sitchin and Charlie Sheen

Zecharia Sitchin has died

Zecharia SitchinI just discovered that Zecharia Sitchin died on October 9th.  Sitchin was the author of many books translating ancient Sumerian texts which appeared to describe the settlement of Earth by ancient astronauts.  Though ridiculed by many, Sitchin’s work has been extremely influential.  Sitchin, aged 90, would have experienced his “Pluto opposition” this year, a time when Pluto in the sky opposes Pluto in the chart.

Sitchin, with the Sun in Cancer (born July 11, 1920, time unknown, Azerbaijan), had a triple conjunction of Mercury, Neptune and […]

Transformation and the Gulf oil spill

“Gaia,” by Alex Grey

Much has been written recently comparing the Gulf oil spill to the rumored Hopi prophecy that predicts the seas turning black and causing the death of many living things.  Certainly there is no doubt that the disaster in the Gulf will transform life as we know it as it destroys much of the undersea life in the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding areas.

Daniel Pinchbeck, editor of the online magazine Reality Sandwich, has an interesting article about the oil disaster.  He, […]

Chiron in Pisces: The bliss of healing

Chiron in PiscesChiron moves into the sign of Pisces today.  Chiron is an interesting planetary body whose orbit lies in the Kuiper belt.  But just as Chiron was not an ordinary Centaur even though he was half horse and half man, Chiron is not just an ordinary KBO (Kuiper Belt Object).  For more information on the planetary properties of Chiron visit this earlier article, and here you’ll find more information on the astrological Chiron.

Today Chiron leaves Aquarius for the sign of Pisces. […]

The astrology of depression: Andrew Koenig

photo montage from CNN. Andrew Koenig, the son of Walter Koenig who played Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series, has been missing since February 14th.  He was last seen at a bakery in Vancouver.  Koenig is an actor who is best known as Kirk Cameron’s sidekick in the long-running television series “Growing Pains.”  Some of Koenig’s friends fear the worst, reporting that he had been depressed and fed up with his life in California. He sold all of his possessions and walked away from his home in […]
