Uranus in Aries

Mania and depression in the financial markets

Earlier in December I wrote about the stock market roller coaster of the past year, and since then it’s gotten even crazier, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average careening from 23,693 on December 19th to a low of 21,721 on December 26th, and zooming up over 1000 points yesterday, the biggest single increase in history.

I lay the blame for this erratic volatility partly on the last gasp of Uranus, planet of disruption, traveling through the fiery sign of Aries for the last time through the end of February.

Meanwhile Jupiter (the […]

Uranus square the lunar nodes: Change is inevitable, progress is optional

Over the past week, and throughout November, the planet Uranus and the lunar nodes will be locked in a square (90 degree) formation.  The nodes of the Moon are points where the journey of the Moon through the sky crosses the path of the Sun, and these points are associated with the soul’s journey from past to future.

I view the outer planets as transformational forces which inspire us, activating something in the personality in order to create change where change is necessary.  Uranus is the planet of change itself – under the […]

In praise of hierarchy: A tale of the Uranus/Pluto square

In case you missed it, ever since Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, followed by Uranus entering Aries in 2010, these two planets were locked in a challenging aspect that inspired and motivated the change that we have seen between 2010 and 2017.  (You can catch up here if this is all new to you.)

I always find it interesting when the zeitgeist (defined: the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time) reflects for the mainstream thinker the planetary cycles […]

Sunday inspiration: Longing to Belong

Art by Monica Stewart Art by Monica Stewart

Venus is in Cancer right now, enhancing our longing to belong to a tribe, a family of souls that connect us to the earth.  This longing for connection conflicts over the next day or two with Uranus in Aries – the individualist, the loner.  This conflict between our need for individual space and our need to belong is central to the human condition and creator of much of our personal and political conflicts.

To inspire healing on this day where our desire […]

Pluto opposes the US Sun and a mass shooting every day

Cartoon from PiedType

One of the things I have used this blog for is to profile the psychology of criminals from an astrological viewpoint.  In the past there were one or two mass shootings in a year that warranted an attempt to try to understand what goes on in the human  mind to inspire such horrific behavior.  In 2015, with more mass shootings than days, this task has become impossible.

Back in June when a screwed up teenager shot up a church in Charleston I wrote “The […]

The astrology of recent violence in France

Photo source: Yahoo News Photo source: Yahoo News

With Uranus, planet of radical behavior and revolution, in Aries, the sign that’s ruled by the God of War (Mars), it is not surprising that there has been an increase in global violence since Uranus entered that sign in 2010.  The square from Pluto (death and destruction) in Capricorn (political and financial structures) exacerbates this even more, and we are heading into the final phase of that cycle (see the sidebar for more information if this is new to you).

In France over the past […]

Uranus/Pluto: The Freelance Economy

freelance economyWhen Pluto entered the sign of Capricorn in 2008, there was a huge contraction in the business world as well as a global recession, and many people lost their jobs.  Pluto creates major shifts in the affairs of the sign through which it travels, and Capricorn is the sign of the structures that create the foundation on which we live.  Corporations, governments, economic structures – all of these are under Capricorn’s domain.

In 2009, Entrepreneur magazine ran this article:

When the economic sky fell last year and CEOs […]

Gun-nuttery and revolution with Uranus in Aries

Guns astrologyMore than any other sign, Aries is associated with warfare.  Ruled by the planet Mars (Mars is the Roman name for the god of war – Ares was his Greek counterpart, Aries is assertive, energetic, and generally doesn’t like to back down from a fight.  Uranus is the planet of rebellion, independence, freedom and liberation.  It’s not a surprise then that the passage of Uranus in Aries (since 2010) has brought with it a huge wave of rebellion against gun laws among gun aficionados in the United States.

As soon as […]

Pluto turns direct and transformation continues

personal transformationIf you feel as though your life has intensified over the past week, you are not alone.  If you open up a newspaper you will see that all over the world conflict is heating up as old failing systems begin to break down so that new paradigms can take their place. It is 2012 after all!

This is what the Uranus/Pluto cycle is all about.  Pluto tears down old and outmoded structures that are no longer working, and this is especially true when Pluto is in Capricorn as it is now. […]

European elections and political musings

Uranus square PlutoThe phrase “May you live in interesting times” has often been identified as a “Chinese curse,” although Wikipedia debunks that notion.  But the viewpoint that interesting times could be a curse supports the idea that change, for most people, is difficult.

We are living in very interesting times indeed, and heading into times that will be even more interesting as Uranus in Aries faces off against Pluto in Capricorn in June.  If you’re new here you’ll be reading a great deal more about this aspect and I hope to be […]
