The astrology of the 2020s: A holistic perspective (part one)

This is part one of a series, you can find Part II hereI’ve been enjoying a video series about the upcoming astrological changes crafted beautifully by Dan Waites and S.J. Anderson, two astrologers I met on Twitter recently. I shared these videos with my Facebook friends and followers, and a few people have contacted me expressing pretty strong fears about what is coming; I suspect that there will be more of you with similar fears. So, I thought it might be useful to […]

Astrological news this week: Fire and water at the Cancerian Solstice

Astrological update for the week of June 20-27, 2022

art by Lynn Fogel

Summer (June) Solstice The big news this week is the Solstice. Up here on the top of the world, the Solstice is the longest day of the year and in the tropical zodiac it’s the time that the Sun enters the sign of Cancer (for my friends Down Under, the Solstice marks the return of the light after darkness). (The four cardinal signs mark the change of seasons: Cancer in June, Capricorn in December, Libra in September and […]

12.17.20 Saturn in Aquarius, 2020-2023

much of this article was originally posted when Saturn first entered Aquarius in March of 2020.

art by Krystle Marie Smith

Saturn first entered Aquarius on March 21, 2020, then retrograded back into Capricorn on July 1st.  Throughout most of November and December, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto were in lockstep within a few degrees, and because Mars was in challenging aspect to the Capricorn trio there was a great deal of conflict and chaos.  Saturn re-enters Aquarius on December 17th, 2020 and will remain in that sign until […]

The significance of the Solar Eclipse at the June Solstice

art by Robin Mead

I posted a portion of this article on my Facebook page.

Summer may begin on June 21st in the northern latitudes, and winter for my friends down under, but the June Solstice occurs when the Sun enters Cancer in the tropical zodiac.  This year’s June solstice occurs on June 20, 2020 at 5:43 pm EDT and will be followed shortly thereafter, at 2:41 am EDT on June 21st, by a solar eclipse at the New Moon in Cancer.  For thousands […]

The Winter Solstice and the return of the light: today!!

Winter Solstice astrology Deviant Art

The Winter Solstice is upon us: the day when the Sun enters Capricorn in the tropical zodiac. We have already talked about Saturn having just entered Capricorn, and Saturn and the Sun align today as well.

The chart for the Winter Solstice is often used to forecast the energies of the coming season (until the Spring Equinox at zero Aries).  The conjunction of the Sun to Saturn at the Winter Solstice embeds this energy into the energy of the season, bringing our attention away from relaxation […]

Your zodiac sign has still not changed!

Nasa thirteenth signAbout five years ago it was discovered that because of the shifting of the Earth’s axis, the constellation Ophiuchus was now closer to the apparent path of the Sun as we observe it from Earth, and astronomers conjectured that this then made Ophiuchus a thirteenth sign in the zodiac.

This popped up recently as “news:”  NASA had changed the system of the zodiac to incorporate the thirteenth sign.

It’s not news the zodiac that we use in Western astrology does not line up with the current […]

Happy Winter Solstice holiday!

Winter Solstice 2015 Winter Solstice card by Ernestine Grindal

It’s only recently, when Pluto (the destroyer of paradigms) moved through Sagittarius (the sign of shared belief and theology, among other things such as travel, world culture, etc.) that a healthy skepticism over religious dogma has moved into the mainstream.  Since that time it has become easier to find scholarly articles about the origin of the Christmas holiday that celebrates the supposed birth of Jesus on December 25th.  In fact, in 2012 even Pope Benedict questioned the […]

Summer Solstice: The Turning of the Wheel

Summer Solstice 2014 Art by Lynn Fogel

Gorgeous art by Lynn Fogel

While custom dictates the Northern Hemisphere celebration of the Summer Solstice and the first day of Summer on June 21st, the use of the tropical zodiac places the entry of the Sun into the sign of Cancer on the longest day of the year.

Cancer is one of the “cardinal” signs – the signs that are directed towards action and leadership.  Each of the cardinal signs marks the turning of the seasons: from the Summer in […]

Chart for the Summer Solstice, 2012

by Lynn Hayes

image by Visual Alchemy.  The Summer Solstice (northern hemisphere) occurs in the tropical zodiac at the exact moment when the Sun enters the sign of Cancer.  This coincides with the longest day of the year and the most fertile season in agrarian cultures in the northern hemisphere.  (Of course for my Aussie and Kiwi friends as well as those in southern Africa the seasons are reversed and the Summer Solstice occurs in December with the entry of the Sun into Capricorn.  If you’re curious about astrology in the southern hemisphere, check out […]
