Sun conjunct Mars

Sunday inspiration for the Mars Cazimi

Cazimi occurs when a planet is within a degree of the Sun, and that is the situation this weekend. Mars and the Sun, both in Mars-ruled Scorpio, have been within a degree of each other since last Wednesday and the exact conjunction occurred very early Saturday morning EST. We still have a few days of this fiery alignment but so far rumors of disaster have not come to pass.

These fiery planetary alignments can inspire and energize us, especially in Scorpio where we are driven to seek Truth in everything we do; to delve into experiences that offer real meaning and […]

The power of Will at the Aries Full Moon

art by Christy Tortland

In lieu of the weekly forecast this week since I’m out of the country, this post on the Full Moon energies pretty much contains all of the energies for the week!

The Aries Full Moon occurs on October 20th, and it’s a potent one.  First of all, it’s in Aries so Mars is the planetary ruler and there is a fiery potency to all things at this time.  Mars, ruler of this Full Moon, is very closely conjunct the Libra Sun and approaching a challenging square to Pluto which […]

Astrological forecast for the week of October 4, 2021: Libra New Moon and stationary planets

art by Myles Pinkney

This week we are at peak retrograde, with six planets retrograde including Mercury.  Expect and prepare for communication glitches under the Mercury retrograde which is at its midpoint this week.  Pluto turns direct on October 6th to be followed by Jupiter and Saturn, and all three planets are stationary throughout October. This is not a good time to try to “push the river” as the saying goes – instead we will benefit from finding a point of stillness in which we can hear the inner […]

The astrology of Tulsi Gabbard

This is the latest in a series of profiles of Democratic presidential candidates.  For the others, see the list at the bottom of this article. In this series I am making every attempt to be objective, but sometimes my bias may seep through.

Tulsi Gabbard is a curious candidate and hard to pin down.  She is economically progressive, supporting Medicare for All, and socially progressive as a fairly recent convert to LGBTQ rights.  She is vegan and a practicing Hindu. She has practiced and taught martial arts and served in the armed services.  She is anti-war, except when it comes […]

Planetary news this week: Sun, Mercury and Mars

Deviant Art

In traditional astrology, when a planet comes “under the beams” of the Sun, meaning it conjoins the Sun, it is considered to be “combust.”  This means that the energy of the planet under the beams can literally burn up in the fire of the Sun, which is considered a bad thing.  After all, that planet in the sky is rendered invisible by the light of the Sun and is therefore seriously debilitated.

There is often a difference between the philosophy of astrology and the practical observation […]

Who is Alexandria Ocasio Cortez? The astrological profile

Embed from Getty Images

This was originally posted in January 2019 but has been updated to reflect the availability of her birth time.  Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was recently elected to the US House of Representatives from the 14th District of New York – the youngest woman ever to be elected to Congress.  Not only that, she is in the middle of her first Saturn Return.

The Saturn Return happens to each of us every 28-30 years when Saturn, traveling through its orbit around the Sun, returns to the degree of the sign that it holds in our natal astrological chart.  Because Saturn represents the virtues […]

The astrology of Bernie Sanders

Embed from Getty Images

Bernie Sanders is an unusual choice for a presidential candidate.  He would be the oldest person to be elected president of the United States.  He is Jewish, and an avowed socialist.  He has no handlers and no PACs, and he is virtually ignored by mainstream media.  Yet he is gaining support in unexpected places – from liberals of course, but also from independents and even evangelicals who resonated with his speech at Liberty University.

One has to wonder why, after a long and illustrious career in Congress, does Sanders suddenly want to be President?  Perhaps a look at the astrological influences […]

Big & Powerful Capricorn Full Moon: July 1, 2015

Full Moon July 1 2015 Photo manipulation by Amin Sedig from Moonipulations

Today’s Full Moon in Capricorn is a big and powerful one, amplified by both Mars and Pluto which are moving into a dance of opposition which will culminate on the 15th of July.

The Capricorn Full Moon brings our focus to the material world and encourages us to apply discipline and structure to our lives so that we can create something of meaning – something that will last beyond our small and mortal life.  The Moon is opposed by […]

Full Moon in Scorpio and the first eclipse of 2013

Lunar eclipse April 2013Today’s Full Moon is a powerful one, as I was reminded when it shone through my window and brightened the room into full daylight.  As in every Full Moon, the Sun is opposite the Sun which is in Taurus.  This creates a need to find balance between the equanimity and stability of Taurus with the need for deep regeneration and soul processing of Scorpio.  This Full Moon is a time of going deep within to confront whatever monsters lie deep in the psyche so that they can be […]

More musings on the Egyptian revolution

Egypt astrologyI was listening to the BBC news coverage of the momentous events in Egypt, and one of the journalists remarked that the protesters in Egypt no longer have any fear of the oppressive government.  His point was that once the inhibitions of fear have been broken there is no turning back, that any attempt to reassert control will just inflame the situation.

This comment, and the events unfolding in Egypt, perfectly mirror the astrological symbolism at work here.  Jupiter, bringing an expansive confidence and urge for a life with […]
