Preparing for the solar eclipse

On April 8, 2024 the Sun will be eclipsed by the shadow of the Moon. This in itself is not an unusual event; solar eclipses occur between two and five times every year. What makes this upcoming eclipse exceptional is that it is a total eclipse, and the path of totality stretches across the United States. The last time this occurred was in 2017, but the next time a total eclipse will be visible for a large swath of the U.S. is 2045.

For thousands of years primitive peoples feared eclipses; viewing […]

Planetary news this week: Solar eclipse awakening and Mercury turns retrograde

Astrological update for the week of April 17-24, 2023

Solar eclipse
. The big news this week is the solar eclipse at the very last few minutes of Aries. I wrote about this last week but it bears repeating as we enter the doorway to the upcoming pair of eclipses.

Eclipses are often bunched into a series of two or three pairs, but this year the two eclipse pairs operate on their own, without any others in the series. The first of the pair, the New […]

Planetary news this week: Eclipses and Scorpio dominate the energetic frequencies

Astrological update for the week of October 23 – November 2

(I will be traveling so next week’s report will be a few days late and is included in this one.)

Scorpio. The big news that will dominate the week is the infusion of Scorpio energies that are emerging right now. On Sunday the Sun and Venus both entered Scorpio, and just after midnight EDT on Tuesday the Moon enters Scorpio just before the solar eclipse at the Scorpio New Moon on October 25, 2022 at […]

Sunday inspiration for Scorpio Eclipse transformation

The Sun and Moon have reached their conjunction today at the first degree of transformational Scorpio, and over the next few days the energies are building for the solar eclipse at the Scorpio New Moon on Tuesday October 25th. We are fully into Scorpio season now, where we dive fearlessly into the depths of passion and Truth and emerge forever changed.

Unfortunately I have lost the source for this poem and am unable to find it – if you know the writer please let me know!

Astrological news this week: Pluto retrograde and eclipse season begins!

Astrological update for the week of April 25 – May 2, 2022

art by John Craig

Pluto turns retrograde. I’ve been talking for a while about the Pluto station because Pluto hasn’t moved much in months – it’s only traveled one degree since the end of February and won’t travel more than one degree until early July.  That is a long time if you have planets between 25 and 29 Capricorn or the other cardinal signs Cancer, Libra Aries.  And if you have planets between 0 and 2 […]

Astrological update for the week of November 29, 2021: A solar eclipse, and some Neptune fog

artist unknown

This week the big news is Neptune turning direct on December 1 after traveling in apparent retrograde motion since June 2021 (like the other two outer planets, Neptune is retrograde approximately half the year), and the upcoming solar eclipse on December 4th in Sagittarius.

The outer planets work as inspirational forces, and because they move slowly their impact can last for a long time. When a planet is preparing to change direction, its apparent motion from our perspective on Earth slows down to a crawl before stopping as it appears to turn, […]

6.10.21 Eclipse effects linger as we sort through confusion

artist unknown

If you missed yesterday’s post on the Gemini Solar Eclipse you can catch up here.

The solar eclipse occurred this morning at 6:52 am EDT (please adjust for your location), but the effects will continue to linger for several days.  This eclipse is loaded with the effect of Mercury – the planet of thought and communication.  Mercury is said to rule the “small mind” – not in terms of being inferior in any way, but Mercury deals with matters of the personal.  What are we thinking, how […]

6.9.21 – Blaze a new trail at the Gemini Solar Eclipse!

This Solar Eclipse at the Gemini New Moon marks a brand new beginning and a fresh start.  All New Moons mark the beginning of the lunar cycle, and a New Moon at the first degree of a sign carries its own signature of a new beginning. Gemini is the sign of awakening the mind: the mental curiosity that takes us into new experiences and new ways of looking at the world.

This New Moon is an eclipse because it occurs near the Nodes of the Moon […]

The meaning of the December 14, 2020 solar eclipse

Syzygy by Holly Campbell

I think it’s safe to say that eclipses are one of the many things on which astrologers disagree.  Do they cause major events?  How long do the effects last – three months? Six months? One week?  Two-three weeks?  Astrology is not a fixed science – rather like meteorology, it’s difficult to make precise predictions because the world is always changing. A planetary transit will affect one person one way at one time, and completely different another time (if you are over 60 you […]

Astrological update for the week of December 6th including a preview of the Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

This week’s eclipse at the Sagittarius New Moon is second in a pair of eclipses which began on November 30th with the lunar eclipse.  I’ll be posting more about that separately, but the energies start building this week!  We also have Chiron stationing direct this week, and lots more so dive in.  (I know, it’s a very silly photo!!)
