Sibly chart

The astrological state of the Union 2024

One of the many things on which astrologers do not agree is what chart to use for the United States. I use the Sibly chart for 5:10 pm on July 4, 1776 which is the most common chart and the one that works for me.

Many of you are aware that the United States has been going through a Pluto return over the past couple of years but really we have been through a heavily Plutonic period since Pluto in Sagittarius transited over the ascendant of […]

The Astrology of the U.S. Midterm Election, 2022 edition

Zazzle

Election Day in the U.S. falls on November 8th this year. Whoever decided to schedule Election Day during Scorpio season clearly wasn’t working with an astrologer – how much nicer would it have been to hold the election during Libra season when everyone wanted to be nice. Oh wait, then nobody would be able to make up their minds. 😃

Lunar eclipse. This year the midterm elections fall not only in Scorpio season, but on the day of a lunar eclipse at dawn in Washington, the Moon opposite […]

The U.S. worker shortage explained by astrology

There is a great deal of debate among astrologers for which astrological chart is the right one for the United States. Most of us use the Sibley chart of July 4th (here’s why I use it), but some argue for a Gemini rising chart, or a Scorpio ascendant.

The ascendant describes the way we see ourselves, and the way the world see us and it’s therefore more visible in many ways than the Sun sign. So when I see articles like this one, about a research study undertaken […]

The astrology of Roe v. Wade: The Pluto connection

Embed from Getty Images

Surprising no one, the US Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade today. The Roe v. Wade decision granted a constitutional right to an abortion and has been controversial since it was declared on January 22, 1973. (Note: I am not by any means pro-abortion. The whole idea makes me very squeamish. But I do believe that we have an inalienable right to control own bodies, and that makes me against this decision.)

The Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade began with a lawsuit that was filed in March of 1970 as part of a general plan to legalize […]

The transit of Neptune and the US chart

I’ve been writing a lot over the past few years about the return of Pluto to its placement in the US chart which is getting near but will not culminate until 2022-2024.  However, there is another and more insidious planetary aspect at work right now in the US, and that is the opposition (180 deg) aspect between transiting Neptune and US Neptune.  This aspect officially began in May 2021 when transiting Neptune reached the exact degree of the opposition, but the opposition began to tighten back in March and April 2020 […]

Sunday inspiration: The battle for the soul of America

In looking at the chart for Inauguration Day I thought I would take a look at the minor asteroids, some of the 10,000 named asteroids that hold a place in our solar system.  Lo and behold, I discovered that in the astrology chart for the United States, the Moon (soul) is in a harmonious trine to the asteroid America, and Pluto (creative destruction and transformation) forms a challenging square to the asteroid America.  The Moon, in idealistic Aquarius in the US chart, is itself in a semisextile aspect to Pluto, denoting the […]

The 2020 Solar Return of the US – aka Happy July 4th

us-solar-return We celebrate July 4th as the birthday of the United States, and most astrologers use the Sibly chart for the astrological symbology of the United States (here’s why I use it).  I thought it might be a good time to look at the current astrological forces affecting the United States right now in the midst of a global pandemic. Please note: In writing posts which may have a political bent I try to be as neutral as possible and simply report on the astrology.  However, occasionally my […]

Current events from an astrological perspective: Black lives suddenly matter, and other news

One thing we might be wondering right now is why the time is suddenly ripe for the US to embrace the Black Lives Matter movement.  Marches to protest the murder of George Floyd by the police (represented by Capricorn – the structural foundations of society) have spread like wildfire around the world.  Even Mitt Romney is marching in protest.

The killing of black people in America isn’t new.  When black people were brought to this country in slave ships, many died along the way.  Others were killed trying to escape, or if […]

The US Seventh House of Enemies

Nations have astrological charts, and although usually there is a great deal of debate over which chart to use for a particular nation, the chart commonly accepted by most astrologers, and the one that I use, is the Sibley chart of July 4, 1776 at 5:10 pm, Philadelphia, with Sagittarius rising.  In this chart, the Sun – the primary driver of the personality in both individuals and in mundane charts of nations – is in the seventh house.

We think today of the seventh house as being the house of marriage and partnership, […]

Happy Birthday USA 2018 edition

Like human beings, nations and entities also have astrological charts and a look at the planetary cycles affecting nations can tell us a great deal about what is in store.  Personal request from me: Political posts can generate nastiness.  Please keep all comments productive and astrological.

Pluto

Geeky astrological detail:  I use the Sibley chart for the US and here’s why.)  One of the most critical astrological events coming up for the United States is the return of Pluto to its placement in the natal chart for the country, something […]
