Saturn square Uranus

Planetary news this week: Total eclipse at the Taurus Full Moon

Astrological update for the week of November 7-14, 2022

art by Keith Spangle

As you probably know, we are in eclipse season and the one on Tuesday November 8th really dominates the airwaves this week. First of all, it’s a total eclipse which means that the lunar nodes of fate are very tightly conjunct the lunation (the Sun and Moon in opposition).  We have a powerful see-saw (remember those?) of the eclipsed Moon (feelings)  in tight conjunction to Uranus (rebellion and change), but in the sign of Taurus […]

Planetary news this week: The end of the Saturn/Uranus square

Astrological update for the week of October 10-17, 2022

Saturn square Uranus: The final hurrah. We are in the final stages of the challenging square from Saturn (compression) to Uranus (rebellion) – the planetary cycle of 2021 which promoted so much civil unrest and overreaction. Although this is not an exact aspect (the two planets are 39 minutes of a degree apart and will begin to wane, we will likely continue to see the final stages of reactionary behavior well into November.

When two planets are in a square aspect to each […]

Astrological news this week: Clarity to push through retrograde issues

Astrological update for the week of September 26 – October 3, 2022

art by Elaine Bayley

Fresh on the heels of the Libra New Moon (September 25, 4:34 pm EDT), we have a week full of positive energies to help navigate through any issues that we may be dealing with. The planets are always doing something, but this week we get a boost from harmonious alignments which provide support and ease us through challenges.

There is a dearth of the water element in the skies at the moment, with […]

Astrological news this week: Time to regroup and reassess under peak retrograde

Astrological update for the week of September 12-19, 2022

art by Jane Ray

Peak retrograde. With Mercury having just turned retrograde last week, there are currently seven planets in apparent retrograde motion. Repeating my comments from last week: When there is a preponderance of retrograde energy it can feel like we’re spinning our wheels, especially if those planets are triggering something in our chart. Mercury retrograde issues tend to be specifically about communication, but we also have Jupiter retrograde (examining missed opportunities), Saturn retrograde (revisiting our obligations), […]

Planetary news this week: Mercury retrograde and a Pisces Full Moon

Astrological update for the week of September 5-12, 2022

artist unknown

Mercury retrograde and retrograde update!  Mercury turns retrograde this week (September 9th) which will take us to Peak Retrograde for the year (six planets plus Chiron in retrograde motion!). If you read my September Planetary Illuminations report you may have noticed that I undercounted the retrogrades so the idea of this being a time of reflection rather than action is even more true.

When there is a preponderance of retrograde energy it can feel like we’re spinning […]

Planetary news this week: Challenges with Ceres

Astrological update for the week of August 29-September 5, 2022

by Lynn Hayes

art by Sundara Fawn

Ceres opposite Saturn, Ceres squares Uranus. The asteroids don’t figure prominently in my work – I can’t explain why some planetary bodies such as Chiron speak to me loudly and clearly while others, like Vesta, don’t present themselves to me at all.  But when Ceres was elevated to planet status I started paying attention to her astrological story. The rise of Ceres corresponds with the growing evidence of climate change and […]

Astrological news this week: Mars enters Gemini and the Uranus station

Astrological update for the week of August 15-22, 2022

artist unknown

What is the Uranus station? Every planet appears to travel retrograde at some time or another – the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) are retrograde for about half the year. Saturn and Jupiter turn retrograde about once a year. Mars turns retrograde about every two years, Venus about every eighteen months, and Mercury about every three months. Obviously planets don’t really travel retrograde, but geocentric astrology observes the motion of the planets from Earth and we interpret the symbolism […]

Astrological news this week:

Astrological update for the week of August 1-8, 2022

art may be by Reina Cottier

Mars/Uranus/North Node.  This week will begin with the climactic conjunction of Mars to Uranus and the North Node, an event which was building last week and peaks on Monday. Mars is fiery action and Uranus is the rebellious departure from the norm, so together they make quite a team. Meanwhile the North Node calls to us from the future, asking that we make the correct choices to lead us down […]

A look ahead to April’s Jupiter/Neptune conjunction

art by Peter Rodulfo

Being an astrologer is a bit like being a meteorologist. You can observe the trends, but you can’t predict the details, at least not with reliable accuracy.

The past few years have been interesting to say the least.  We had the conjunction of Saturn (hardship) and Pluto (death and regeneration) in 2020, which astrologers warned could bring financial and other hardships. With Neptune in Pisces, sign of its modern rulership and associated with viruses, there was an indication of a mysterious illness. But the kind of […]

The astrology of 2022: Birth pangs for the New Age

Deviant Art

First: A look back at 2021.

Following on the heels of 2020, a year when the astrology (Capricorn stellium and Saturn/Pluto conjunction, along with a record-breaking period of retrograde planets) spoke of repression and control as the world locked down to battle the Coronavirus, we were all hoping for a brighter future and as I titled my 2021 forecast, “A new way forward.”  However, I closed with this paragraph and I think we can agree that this is a little truer than we had imagined:

Where 2020 […]
