Planetary news this week: Create a plan for something new

Astrological update for June 12-19, 2023

mandala by Fiona Owen

This week we have a Gemini New Moon with Sun, Moon and Mercury all in Gemini, the sign of curiosity and experimentation. Mercury rules Gemini so that in itself is a double whammy of Geminian busyness and interesting conversations. Communication, writing and information processing of all sorts is highlighted now. This is an especially good week for writers as Saturn interactions help to provide the focus and discipline we need to tackle those projects we may have been putting off.

Saturn […]

Astrological news this week: Gemini New Moon & a change of direction

Astrological update for the week of May 30 –  June 5, 2022

art by Paula Bella Flores

A New Moon in Gemini, the sign of communication and experiences, offers an opportunity for a new perspective. The ruler of the New Moon is Mercury, the messenger planet, adding to the focus on communication and adaptation. In mythology, Mercury was the only god who was able to travel back and forth to the Underworld, facilitating communication between the gods. Mercury-ruled Gemini teaches us to accept and integrate a wide variety […]

Weekend update May 22, 2021: Saturn turns retrograde and an intense Sunday ⭐️

art by Jim Fitzpatrick

Like all planets Saturn has two faces, both Beast and Prince.  As Beast, he brings out our doubts and insecurities and bestows hardships.  As Prince, the self-doubt and endurance required to manage the Beastly enterprises which result in successes and mastery.  Saturn is in Aquarius, one of its rulership signs where it is happiest and best able to create the forms and structures which are required in order to build societies (Aquarius) that are effective and well-balanced.  Saturn cares little for personal feelings; the ultimate […]

Weekly astrological forecast for September 21, 2020 including the Equinox and Saturn turning direct

In this week’s video I review the meaning of the Sun entering Libra at the September equinox and the turning of the seasons.  Also, Saturn is stationary in the sky right now and I thought he deserved some special time since his influence is important with all of the Capricorn energies happening at the moment.  And of course I’ll review the astrological influences of the week ahead to help with your planning.  Transcription can be found at the end, but as always I encourage you to watch the video.  It helps me and my channel, of course, but you’ll also […]

And then there were four: Venus and Jupiter turn retrograde this week

Most of my readers already know this, but planets don’t actually travel backwards.  Astrology observes the motion of the planets from our perspective on earth, and from our perspective they occasionally appear to be moving backwards: we call this retrograde.

Pluto, planet of darkness and transformation, turned retrograde at the end of April.  Saturn, planet of tests and challenges, turned retrograde on May 11th, 2020.  Venus turned retrograde May 13th and Jupiter May 14th, at which point four planets will be retrograde.  (See this earlier post for more […]

Astrological insights for the week of May 11, 2020: Video and transcript

There’s a lot of planetary action right now, and here’s what you need to know to get the most out of it.  I can’t believe I forgot to talk about Jupiter retrograde!  I tacked on a bit about Jupiter at the end of the video. You’ll find the transcription below the video.  Thanks for tuning in!  If you like the videos, please subscribe to the channel.  👍🏼

Pluto turns retrograde, beginning a major year of retrograde activity

Pluto turns retrograde on April 25, 2020.  That in itself is not unusual since Pluto, along with all of the outer planets, spends about half the year in retrograde motion.  What IS unusual is that this year we will have between five and seven planets retrograde for five months.

About retrogrades

Retrogradation occurs because we observe the movement of planets from our perspective on earth and sometimes, because of the varying speeds at which the planets hurtle around the Sun, they appear to move backwards.  When a planet is […]

Prepare for August’s planetary twists and turns

Although it’s the solar eclipse on August 21 that is making all the headlines, a more important planetary dynamic is the fact that three planets change direction in August: Uranus, Mercury and Saturn.

Planets of course don’t really change the direction of their orbit, but from our perspective here on earth sometimes the planets appear to move backwards which we call retrograde.  When they reverse course again to move forwards we call that direct.

  • On August 3rd Uranus, planet of radical change […]

Retrogrades: A discussion for June 2014

Mercury retrogradeAs I was writing the Planetary Illuminations report for June (coming soon to an inbox near you if you are on my mailing list!!) I found that the discussion about retrogrades was substantial enough to deserve its own post.

Astrologically is not always astronomically correct because we observe the motion of the planets from our perspective here on earth.  From here, the planets sometimes appear to change direction and move backwards instead of forwards, and we call this “retrograde motion.”

As June begins, Saturn and Pluto are already retrograde, and during the […]

Planetary news this week: Mars and Saturn change direction

Art from Deviant Art Art from Deviant Art

I am late with the Planetary Illuminations report this week, but you all may be feeling the influence of Mars turning retrograde on March 1st followed immediately by Saturn on the 2nd.

Planets don’t travel backwards, but because astrologers view the movement of the planets from our perspective on earth they sometimes appear to travel in reverse direction.  Before a planet changes direction its movement slows down to a crawl and they appear stationary in the sky at the time the change of direction actually occurs.

When […]
