2024 election musings: July Full Moon edition

The past week has brought about some stunning reversals in the unfolding drama of the U.S. political scene. I’ve moved most of my political writing to sound bytes on Twitter/X and AstroNotes on Substack but the events of this week seem like a bigger picture situation that deserve a more permanent place on the blog.

On Sunday July 21st there was a Full Moon at the 29th degree of Capricorn. This was the second Full Moon in Capricorn, something that is often called a “Blue Moon” because […]

US 2020 astrological election prediction realities

ABC news

Please note that any comments from either side of the aisle which serve only to inflame and do not add productively to the conversation will be deleted.

Predicting the outcome of an election is a tempting exercise, but extremely difficult in practice.  In 2016 astrologers everywhere attempted to predict whether Clinton or Trump would win the November US Presidential election.  You can geek out here and read the article and comments breaking down results by whether the astrologer followed the tropical or sidereal zodiac, was […]

Learning to trust the future

Astrologers have a reputation, which we ourselves and our forbears have propagated, of being able to foretell the future.  The hunger to know the future is not, of course, limited to astrology.  Climatologists, stockbrokers, economists – all are paid to predict the future.  All fail miserably.  (I have always wondered why these three fields of expertise are typically more respected than astrologers, when astrology is more accurate than any of them!!)

As we leave 2018 behind and welcome a new year, blog posts predicting what will take place in 2019 are beginning to spring […]

Sunday inspiration: Trusting the future

(reposted from 2012) Astrologers have a reputation, which we ourselves and our forbears have propagated, of being able to foretell the future.  If you run a Google search for “Can astrology predict the future,” the very first article is from a well-known astrology site titled “Predicting the future with astrology.”

The hunger to know the future is not, of course, limited to astrology.  Climatologists, stockbrokers, economists – all are paid to predict the future.  All fail miserably.

In our personal lives we long to know the outcome of our personal situations.  As one […]

Astrologers predict the outcome of the 2012 election: Part II

2012 election astrologyThis is part II of a series, you can catch up on part I here.

There are many different astrological techniques for prediction.  Some are classical, and others are more creative.  When I am looking at relationship charts I will nearly always compare the progressed charts of the two individuals to see what is happening in the relationship at that time.  In an election, a people chooses its governing body and the relationship between them is quite important.

Some of this post may seem excessively geeky […]

Astrologers predict the outcome of the 2012 election: Part I

2012 presidential election predictionsAt the recent United Astrology Conference (to which I was invited to speak, but was unable to attend due to family health emergencies), a panel of esteemed astrologers discussed their predictions regarding the outcome of the 2012 presidential elections.

You can watch the entire presentation here and here (thanks Chris Brennan for the links).  I was interested to see what techniques these astrologers used.  Most of the astrologers on the panel represent one of the more traditional branches of astrology, with Gary […]

Indian Court rules that astrology is a science

vedic astrologyHere’s why I love India:

The judgment will be met with relief in India, where engagements are decided, wedding and election dates are chosen on the basis of detailed charts drawn up by revered astrologers. A day deemed “auspicious” by an astrologer can lead to thousands of weddings and traffic gridlock.
For years it has been dismissed by the world’s scientists, but according to the Bombay High Court astrologers are officially their colleagues.
The ruling was made in a case brought by a campaign group, Janhit […]

Predicting the future with astrology

The title of this post is misleading.  As my readers know, I do not believe that we can predict the future with astrology.  We can predict stormy weather; we can predict good fortune of some kind.  We cannot predict with any degree of accuracy when specific things will happen, the effort of many astrologers to do so notwithstanding.

An example of this is the question “when will I meet my soulmate.”  This is probably the Number One question asked of astrologers, and second is “when will I be successful.”  Both of […]

Astrology goes to court in India

This
is wrong in so many ways (thanks to Astrococktail for the article):

Mumbai: Is astrology a science or an art of making money? The city-based NGO, Janhit Manch, has started a debate on the issue in the Bombay high court.

A public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the manch and its convener Bhagwanji Raiyani, along with his associate Dattaram Kumkar, has questioned the validity of predictions by well-known astrologers, including Bejan Daruwalla, and unknown babas like Brahmarshi Shri Kumar Swami.

Is Daruwalla and Brahmarshi were not represented by their advocates, the court issued notices to them to file their replies in […]

Solar eclipse pits superstition against transformation

An article in Yahoo News yesterday was entitled “Solar eclipse pits superstition against science,” but to me there is no better example of the split between traditional Vedic astrologers and “modern” transformational or evolutionary astrologers.  I welcome my Vedic astrologer readers to chime in on this topic and look forward to an interesting discussion.

From the article:

Indian astrologers are predicting violence and turmoil across the world as a result of this week’s total solar eclipse, which the superstitious and religious view as a sign of potential doom.

But astronomers, scientists and secularists are trying to play down claims of evil portent in […]
