Pluto in Leo

“Don’t call me a Baby Boomer”

The majority of people don’t know it, but the division of people into generations is really based on astrology.  The Baby Boomers, for instance, are loosely tied  to the post-war period between 1946 and 1964.  However, as I wrote a few years ago, there is a huge difference between the early boomers, with Pluto in Leo, and the late b[l]oomers, who were born after 1956 with Pluto in Virgo.

A recent New York Times article pleads “Don’t call me a Baby Boomer“:

This year the […]

Suicide among “baby boomers” jumps by 50%

News outlets are reporting that suicide rates for individuals aged 40-59 jumped over the last decade. The most pronounced jump was in the age groups from 50-54 and from 55-59 years old but there was also a big jump in suicides for those aged 60-64. (Full report from the CDC here.)

Astrologically, this age group corresponds to the Pluto in Leo generation. Leo is the sign that needs to feel special, and no age group has been as determined to be special as the […]

Full Moon in Leo, January 26 2013

Leo Full MoonThis Full Moon is one of ascension and expansion.  In Leo we celebrate our unique individuality and acclaim the treasure of the Self.  At the Leo Full Moon we must balance that against the transpersonal influence of the Aquarius Sun which urges us to transcend the boundaries of the small Self in order to connect with the greater collective.

The Leo/Aquarius polarity is an important one for the Baby Boomers with Pluto in Leo, a placement which has led to a fanatical and sometimes destructive (Pluto) obsession […]

Pluto in Capricorn: Passing through the gate of wisdom

Wisdom of the elderlyMy friend Gary shared this article by Michael Meade and it’s so applicable to the current passage of Pluto through Capricorn.  Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, also known as the Greek Kronos, also known as “Father Time.”  Saturn and Capricorn remind us that our life is short and that we must be smart about how we spend the time that is allotted to us.

In traditional cultures, the elders are expected to remember the essential things that everyone else keeps forgetting. After “growing up,” a person is […]

Pluto in Leo generation “beset by disabilities”

baby boomer disabilities
The National Health Interview survey found that disabilities for people between the ages of 50 and 64 are on the rise, a statistic that contrasts with a decline in disabilities for people aged 65 and over.   The age group in trouble is the one that was born between 1945 and 1960 which corresponds to the Pluto in Leo generation.  (You can read more about that generation, also called “baby boomers,” here.

While the total number of adults reporting physical problems in this age group did not change […]

The Millennial Generation

We’ve been talking in these pages about the generational impacts of this year’s presidential election, including the early boomers (Pluto in Leo), late boomers and generation X (Pluto in Virgo) and generation Y (Pluto in Libra). Each group as a generation carries the impulses of the sign that Pluto was in. But there is another generation, commonly considered to have born since 1982, that many writers are calling the Millennial generation, presumably because they came of age at the turn of the 21st century.

Pluto in Scorpio, the sign which it rules, brought with it the scourge of AIDS (death by […]

Obama, Early and Late Boomers, and Pluto generations

There are two articles in the latest Newsweek magazine that have inspired posts, so you’ll get one tomorrow about the end of the happiness craze. Today, though, I am excited about Jonathan Alter’s article about the battle between the Early Boomers versus the Late Boomers in the battle between Obama and Clinton.

Jill has been bemoaning just such a battle on her blog, where cohorts from both generation are duking it out over the Democratic candidates. The fact is, the Boomers that get the bad rap about being an admittedly self-indulgent and narcissistic generation […]

Hip replacement and the Baby Boomer generation

runnersI listened to part of a piece today on The Story, a newish show by the fabulous Dick Gordon who moved to Chapel Hill after his NPR show The Connection was taken off the air for being too controversial. Anyway… today’s show featured a segment called “Jane Fonda’s Legacy,” a story about the aerobics craze that began during the 1980s and continued into the 1990s, leaving many of us with shin splints, bad feet and sciatica worse than our mothers’.

Dick interviewed a former aerobics instructor named Carol Espel who taught […]

“Boomsday” is coming

Newsweek has a column by Robert Samuelson about the upcoming “Boomsday” – the time (projected to be 2011) when 77 million baby boomers begin hitting the age of 65 and demanding their social security payouts. Because of the nature of the Social Security system, it will be the Boomers’ children whose social security taxes are paying for their parents’ retirement.

Many social critics anticipate a “generational backlash” when taxes have to be raised to accommodate the burgeoning Social Security program, and this dovetails nicely with the upcoming square of Uranus in Aries (revolution for individual rights) to Pluto […]
