Sunday inspiration: A global dark night of the soul

art by Wendy Andrews

There is no doubt that we are going through a critical time in human history under this pandemic, and indeed history tells us that pandemics have a tendency to reshape the course of history.  But this one is occurring as we transition between the Age of Pisces and the Aquarian Age, a tremendous shift of energies that occurs only once every 2150 years.

From an astrological perspective, we look at transits of the planet Pluto as reaching into the depths of the soul to evoke occasionally cataclysmic […]

Sunday inspiration: The opportunity in adversity

As you may know, last year a stellium of planets in Capricorn including Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto induced a period of compression and restriction from the Coronavirus.  This year we are in an Aquarian time of awakening and new ideas, so I thought this piece from Eckhart Tolle was a very appropriate way to inspire the transition from the adversity of Saturn and Pluto to the logic and “out of the box” thinking of Aquarius.  For more writings of Eckhart Tolle, visit his website here.

Life unfolds between the […]

Sunday inspiration: Penetrating the Dark Night of the Soul at Samhain

art by Christian Schloe

The ancient Celtic holiday Samhain is a cross-quarter holiday, meaning it occurs when the Sun is at the midpoint of the Winter Solstice and the Autumn Equinox rather than October 31.  That point is actually the 15th degree of Scorpio which is actually on November 7th this year. The All Hallows Eve Christian festivals were designed to replace the ancient Samhain festival, and now we have gone backwards and celebrate Samhain at Halloween.  But the dark portal of energy signified by Samhain is actually on […]

inspiration for the journey through Scorpio season

Art by Melissa Vincent

You may be blind to the very thing that will make your life feel worth living. You may be gullible, taking in the world’s insidious lessons in superficial satisfaction.  Therefore, you have to dig deeper.  Discover who you are and who you want to be.  Don’t be dissuaded from that objective by the illusory promises of commercial life.  Instead, be yourself.

That is the point of the night sea journey—to be born into yourself. There, you are in the amniotic fluid, in an alchemical […]

Tell me something good.

It’s human nature to seek pleasure and avoid pain.  Nobody wants to feel bad, or go through difficult situations.  I have been an astrologer for more than half of my life now, so it’s hard for me to remember what it was like before I knew about planetary cycles that were likely to bring challenges that required adjustment and change, but I imagine that it is pretty confusing.  Life is going great, and then all of a sudden here comes a curve ball and suddenly I’m feeling depressed for apparently no […]

Sunday inspiration: when bad planets happen to good people

dark night of the soul Art by Willow Arlenea

I mean the title as a bit of a joke – an homage to the self-help book from the 1970s by Harold Kushner.  But it’s no joke when tragic events happen in our own lives or to someone we love.

Over the past five years of such intense planetary drama these stories seem to occur more frequently, at least in my life.  The bride-to-be whose fiance dies of a heart attack five days before the wedding.  The parents who lose two children in the […]

The North Node/Pluto conjunction November 2010

The North and South Nodes of the  Moon are important parts of the astrological chart, but they are not planets.  Rather, they are points in the sky that mark the passage of the Moon across the path of the Sun.  I like to think of them as signposts in the sky that point us in the right direction so that we can accomplish our evolutionary journey.  The South Node is associated with the past – things and emotions which give us comfort but also hold us back.  The North Node […]

Astrology in my world: Handling Jupiter/Uranus energy

Art by Alex Grey

Much has been written about the positive aspects of the combination of Jupiter and Uranus in the chart, and there is no doubt that when these planets come together it is a rockin’ opportunity to open doorways, both in our life and in our own being, that have been stuck closed.  Jupiter is the planet of expansion and good fortune – it can bring pinnacle experiences and a sense of unlimited opportunity.  Uranus is known as the planet of change and sudden surprise, but it is […]

The Dark Night of the Soul

dark night of the soulThis article was originally posted in September of 2006 when Saturn and Neptune were in opposition.  Many of my clients have been referring to a “dark night of the soul” resulting from the Chiron/Neptune conjunction so I thought it might be useful to repost it.

While I was on vacation I happened on a radio interview with Andrew Harvey, a mystic and Shakespearean scholar who believes as many do that the earth is heading for some troubled times. I was very impressed by the depth of his […]

Sunday Inspiration: Thoughts on Transformation

mountains” In a world of beginnings, middles, and endings, all beginnings force an ending. Beginnings push through middles and roll on to endings. And what do endings do? Does the energy of the event disappear?

No, it doesn’t. It goes on to be something new, re-forming in a new beginning, an endless, inexhaustible cycle of energy.”
