The Reclassification of Pluto

plutoThe International Astronomical Union met in 2006 to discuss reclassifying our solar system, and as a result Pluto was deemed to be a dwarf planet, the former asteroid Ceres was promoted to planetary status, and the newest planet, formerly named UB313, was named Eris after the goddess of discord. Because the astrological Pluto deals with the transformation that comes from looking death in the eye and annhilation of the personal ego, it stands to reason that the reclassification of Pluto could open a door to how this process operates.

The […]

Transits and Transformation: Turning Crisis into Healing

Art by Susan Seddon Boulet Art by Susan Seddon Boulet

As humans, we tend to think that happiness is better than sadness, that good luck is better than bad. We may avoid difficult confrontations and pursue more comfortable situations. When tragedy strikes our well-protected lives, we shout out to our god of choice: “How could you do this to me??” We believe that our birthright is the pursuit of happiness, and we spend our lives trying to protect ourselves from sorrow.

The soul, however, has a different journey. The soul travels […]

The astrology of the Horizon oil rig explosion

oil rig explosion

A deepwater oil rig off the coats of Louisiana has burned for more than a day.  Eleven workers are missing and it is thought that over a million liters of crude oil could be released from the damaged rig every day.  The oil slick that has resulted is now eight miles long.  This calamity will destroy the delicate ecological balance of this area that is home to a variety of shellfish and fish including the rare bluefin tuna.

Earthquake and tsunami in Samoa

The earthquake yesterday in Samoa was a severe one, with a magnitude of nearly 8 on the Richter scale, resulting in a tsunami in the Samoan islands that have killed hundreds of people.

This event occurred as the Moon joined Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, but even more significant is the square of Ceres, the planet of nurturing and our relationship with the Earth, to Neptune in what is now a stellium in Aquarius.

Neptune of course represents the vast oceans, and the square of Ceres to Neptune is reminiscent of the devastation […]

Ceres may be an impersonator!!

CeresThanks to Astrococktail for the link to this article.Last year Ceres was reclassified as a planet along with Pluto and the new planet Eris as a “dwarf planet,” and most recently as a “Plutoid.”

Ceres has an interesting history: when it was first discovered scientists hailed Ceres as a new planet, but then after Neptune was discovered and it was much larger, Ceres was […]

Pluto, the Galactic Center, Ceres and Bees

Jill wrote a post yesterday about the sudden disappearance of honeybees, and subsequent research turned up this article which connects weather anomalies to changes in the Gulf Stream circuit, an event which occurred between December 11 and 19th just as Pluto was making its first conjunction to the Galactic Center. There is a link which shows a short period where the Gulf Stream stops flowing towards Europe and flows back down without completing its normaly circuit. Earlier this month I wrote about my hypothesis that the effect of Pluto conjunct the GC, which historically has […]

Ceres and the Pluto/Galactic Center Conjunction

hot-earth
As most of you know, Pluto was reclassified last year joining Ceres and Eris as dwarf planets (I personally wish they had kept the initial name of Plutons, but oh well). This has not changed the effect that Pluto has in the birthchart, which is to bring us face to face with our deepest fears and our highest destiny, but it introduced two new elements to the Plutonic process: Ceres and the newly discovered Eris.

Last December Pluto conjoined the Galactic Center for the first time in 248 years. The Galactic Center is […]

The Archetype and Astrological History of Ceres

CeresPart I: A history of the use of Asteroids in Astrology

Ceres was first discovered in 1801 and immediately classified as a planet. Shortly thereafter, several other bodies were discovered and classified as planets beginning with Pallas in 1802, Juno in 1804, Vesta in 1807, and later Astraea in 1845. When Neptune was discovered in 1846, it was much larger than the other bodies and was therefore retained as a planet and the others were demoted to the asteroid belt along with thousands more asteroids that were discovered over the next 200 years. […]

Persephone: Queen of the Underworld?

art by Kris Waldherr snagged from Paleothea.com

Jeffrey had a fascinating post the other day on Persephone’s willingness to go into the underworld of her own free will. I’m looking forward to debating Jeffrey soon on the rulership of Ceres (he says Virgo, I say Cancer) but I’m still looking for my Demetra George book. Meanwhile, check out this excerpt (I added paragraphs to make it easier to read):

Pluto was originally a female deity, but when the matriarchalists were subjugated, was changed to a male, although the powers and attributes […]

Introducing the Plutons!! Part I, Ceres

As I wrote earlier this week and most people already know, the International Astronomical Union is meeting this week to discuss reclassifying our solar system, and adding three new planets under the category of “Plutons” to accompany our old friend Pluto. The three new planets are Ceres, Charon, and 2003 UB313 (temporarily nicknamed “Xena”). Because the astrological Pluto deals with the transformation that comes from looking death in the eye and annhilation of the personal ego, it stands to reason that the reclassification of the “Plutons” could open a door to how this process operates.

The last “planet” […]
