Sunday inspiration: The Neptune station and finding compassion for ourselves

art by Rita Loyd. If the last week has taught us anything, it’s that we have no idea what’s going on inside the minds of others.  A client told me yesterday, “everyone else I know is having so much fun.”  In today’s glitzy social media world, it’s so easy to look at the Instagram feeds of your friends and think that everyone is having a perfect life. That’s the curated version – the one that we choose to show the world.

Often the real version, the life that we […]

Tales of the Neptune Retrograde Station

Art by Fiona Owen

Neptune, the planet of divine creativity and illusion, turned retrograde on June 16th. This is not unusual – the outer planets turn retrograde (appear to move backwards from our perspective on earth) every year. Before a planet changes direction its apparent motion slows to a standstill, just as a car does when making a U-turn.

When a planet is stationary, it captures our attention.  If that planet is affecting something in our chart, it yells at us to take notice.  It shines like a laser beam, a […]

Retrogrades: A discussion for June 2014

Mercury retrogradeAs I was writing the Planetary Illuminations report for June (coming soon to an inbox near you if you are on my mailing list!!) I found that the discussion about retrogrades was substantial enough to deserve its own post.

Astrologically is not always astronomically correct because we observe the motion of the planets from our perspective here on earth.  From here, the planets sometimes appear to change direction and move backwards instead of forwards, and we call this “retrograde motion.”

As June begins, Saturn and Pluto are already retrograde, and during the […]

Neptune and Chiron turn direct, and other planetary news this week

Chiron and Neptune turn directNeptune and Chiron both change direction in a few days after traveling retrograde since earlier this year, which means their (apparent) motion has slowed to a virtual standstill as they prepare to move forward again.  These two have been tied together since early in 2009, and although the exact conjunction was complete in 2010, since then the two have been within three degrees of each other. When the Soul Healer (Chiron) and the Soul Teacher (Neptune) get together, you know there is some serious internal work to […]

Retrogrades galore this month!

Jupiter turned retrograde last week (on May 9), and Chiron turns retrograde May 25, just before Mercury and Neptune on May 26. Planets don’t really move backwards, but because we view the motion of the planets from our perspective on earth in astrology, they sometimes appear to turn backwards, or retrograde.

Retrograde planets operate on a more internal, deeper and more personal level. Individuals with a large number (4, 5 or more) of retrograde planets tend to be more inverted, with a greater internal focus and less attention to the outside world.

Before planets turn retrograde, […]

Neptune Rx and Disillusionment

Urania had a wonderful post subtitled “The Magic of Believing” (sadly her blog has disappeared without a link).

Fairy Godmother’s magic can only last so long, and when midnight strikes, the coach turns back into a pumpkin.

Ah, the pain of disillusion.

We’re all there to some extent: feeling a bit lost and wondering if we really must grow up, as Saturn, ruler of time and bringer of old-age, stands opposing Neptune, fantasist, ecape-artist, and ideologue.

Neptune goes Stationary Retrograde on May 24, 2007 at the 23rd degree of Aquarius, a degree associated with the modern, electronically broadcast imagery of celebrity. . . .

The […]
