Astrological news this week: Watery realms under the Cancer New Moon and Neptune station

Astrological update for the week of June 27-July 4, 2022

Elemental Water

Neptune stations retrograde.  The role of Neptune is to inspire the transcendence of ordinary life and ascension into a more illuminated experience of creative inspiration. Under its influence Spirit blossoms into the material world. Neptune is associated with experiences that bring spiritual bliss, but idealism and imagination can also bring confusion and self-deception if we’re not aware. Neptune’s role in the astrological pantheon, in my opinion, is to encourage us to seek out experiences which teach […]

The astrology of Alec Baldwin’s shooting accident

The shocking shooting accident on the set of the film “Rust” last week coincided with a difficult week astrologically.  The Moon was just full in Aries, in a challenging alignment with both Mars, planet of violence and aggression, and Pluto, planet of death and rebirth. Any Mars/Pluto combination is fraught with potential for violence, and while I would never say that this alignment caused the accident, its coincidental timing must be noted.

As if that weren’t enough, the new planet Eris was opposed by Mars and squared by Pluto at the Full Moon. You can read more about […]

Astrological update for the week of October 25-November 1, 2021

Sorry for the tardiness of this post!  I was traveling yesterday for nearly 24 hours and overestimated my ability to post from airports using my ipad.

I took this photo in the Doge’s Palace in Venice.  This is not a clock but rather a marking of the Sun through the zodiac. It fascinates me that the highly religious Catholics of the time made such a prominent point of the astrological symbolism! (The needle seems to be stuck at Pisces since every photo of this clock has the needle in the same place.)

The power of Will at the Aries Full Moon

art by Christy Tortland

In lieu of the weekly forecast this week since I’m out of the country, this post on the Full Moon energies pretty much contains all of the energies for the week!

The Aries Full Moon occurs on October 20th, and it’s a potent one.  First of all, it’s in Aries so Mars is the planetary ruler and there is a fiery potency to all things at this time.  Mars, ruler of this Full Moon, is very closely conjunct the Libra Sun and approaching a challenging square to Pluto which […]

12.23.20 How to master today’s Mars square Pluto transit

Yes, it’s true that there’s likely to be more conflict.  Yes, it’s true that people will be angrier and more reactive.  Mars is a fiery motivator, and Pluto demands power and can be quite greedy about it.  A clash between these two can foster irritation and unease at the minimum, and violence at the maximum.  This is the last of a series of interactions between Mars and Pluto and in today’s alignment we also have the Moon in Aries, siding with Mars in a conjunction to join the battle against Pluto.  This […]

12.22.23 The last gasp of Mars square Pluto

With Mars having been in its own sign Aries for half the year, we’ve had plenty of its fiery enthusiasm, frustration and outbreaks of outright rage and violence.  For much of this journey Mars was locked in a stressful square aspect to Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto which were all in Capricorn.  Expanded by Jupiter, locked down by Saturn and incinerated by Pluto, Mars was a powerful force to be reckoned with in 2020.  Statisticians blame the increase in violent crime on COVID-19, but we know it was […]

12.21.20 Winter Solstice, and the astrological update for the week of December 21, 2020

There’s so much astrological news right now it’s difficult to pack it in, but I try. 😃  Winter Solstice, the conjunction of Jupiter to Saturn in Aquarius, etc. etc. etc.  Also, Mars squares Pluto this week one final time and we’ll need to watch out for power conflicts and excessive aggression.  Take out your boxing gloves!   Also, of course, a forecast for the week ahead to help you be prepared and there’s a Christmas cameo of puppies because clickbait!  Transcript is below.

12.16.20 A harbinger today of the upcoming final Mars/Pluto square

art by Fiona Owen

When two planets are about to meet but haven’t yet connected and a faster moving planet (or luminary) connects them, we say this faster moving planet has “translated” the planetary cycle of the other two.  This is exactly what we have today as the Capricorn Moon squares Mars this morning (Eastern time) and a few hours later conjoins Pluto, setting us up for the challenging square from Mars to Pluto on December 23rd.  Under the Capricorn Moon we are serious and eager to […]

How to make it through the Mars/Pluto square!

Mars, planet of action, anger and motivation, went into Aries in late June, and by August was aligning in a square to the Capricorn stellium of Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn.  In its focus on being serious, doing the hard work and building lasting structures Capricorn tends to put the kibosh on Mars, leading to some unpleasant circumstances as we’ve seen recently.

Mars makes its second square to Pluto this week, and this can be an intense alignment.  I made a little video to help us further understand the challenges and benefits of this alignment.

The dance of the Mars square to Saturn and Pluto

If you know the artist of this wonderful piece please let me know!  As Mars (planet of action) pirouettes through the sky and prepares to turn retrograde on September 9th, it has already formed a challenging square to Jupiter (ideological conflict) and Pluto (power conflict). Today it makes the first of a series of squares to Saturn (repression and conflict). Interactions between Mars and Saturn are often described as the attempt to drive with the brakes on, but of course we already have that kind of scenario with so many retrograde […]
