Hades

Pluto, psychology, transformation and the devil

Pluto astrology Art by Valentina Remenar

You’ll be reading a lot about Pluto in these pages in the next months because I’m just entering a cycle of Pluto to an important system in my chart (geeky astrological details: to my Sun/Saturn/Neptune conjunction which squares Uranus).  Pluto was discovered in 1930 and is associated with psychology and the understanding of our hidden motivations and the mental and emotional factors that underlie our actions.

Pluto, of course, was the Lord of the Underworld.  In psychological astrology he represents the Underworld […]

Pluto has a new moon!

Uranus rules surprising events, so it’s an interesting synchronicity that a new Moon around Pluto is discovered just as the square between Uranus and Pluto reaches its closest point until next year.  Temporarily named P-4, the new moon may ultimately be called Cerberus after the dog that guards the gates of Hades.

The New Horizons mission is expected to reach Pluto in 2015, just as the square of Uranus to Pluto reaches its completion.

Mercury, Venus and Jupiter: Oh my!

venus mercury jupiter conjunctionMercury and Venus have been moving towards an exact conjunction over the past week, but today they align exactly.  On Wednesday May 11th the two will hook up with Jupiter as well, creating a triple conjunction of powerful magnitude.

Mercury represents communication and the transmission of information, but it also governs change and the fluidity of our experience.  Mercury is a bit of a shapeshifter, and in mythology Hermes/Mercury was the only god that could travel into the underworld to relay messages to Hades/Pluto from the other gods.

Venus […]

The astrology of the Royal Wedding

Royal Wedding astrologyI confess I’m not that interested in the Royal Wedding that occurs today. I wasn’t that interested in Charles and Diana’s wedding either, even though that wedding had much more of the pomp and circumstance that we associate with royalty than the more modern wedding of William and Kate.

But then I read my friend Kathryn’s analysis and the whole situation became much more interesting.  Some of the interesting facts about the royal wedding according to Kathryn:

  • The wedding date occurs on the eve of the […]

The Plutocracy of Pluto in Capricorn 2010

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday said the United States would be ceded to plutocrats and oligarchs if Republicans win next month’s election, referring to the flood of pro-GOP corporate election spending.

Peasants for Plutocracy by Michael Dal Cerro

The word “plutocracy” is being heard more and more these days, as in this article quoting Nancy Pelosi.   It’s an interesting word as it contains the word “Pluto” which is all about power and control.  Merriam-Webster defines “plutocracy” as […]

Leonardo daVinci and finding darkness in light

darkness and lightI found this article through the Red Ice Creations website, and it brought up an interesting point for me.

As with photography and art, light and shadow can define an object, area, or even a planet. Placing yourself in a specific location can cause an object to appear different, thus your perspective of an object that’s unchanging, becomes fluid.

Leonardo Da Vinci’s perspective, although appropriately geared more towards an artistic sense, heavily relied on the Earth and the planets themselves. His works, more importantly […]

Pluto changes direction today, September 11, and Astrology in my world

Today is the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, but it’s also the day that Pluto changes direction.  Planets don’t really move backwards, but they appear to do so because we observe their motions from our vantage point here on earth.  When they do, we call that “retrograde motion” and Pluto has been retrograde since early April of this year.

Pluto was the god of the Underworld, and he takes that role astrologically as well.  He brings us into the realm of the subconscious, the dark and frightening, the secret rage […]

Psychology, Rush Limbaugh and the Faith Forum

John McCain/Barack Obama John McCain/Barack Obama

With Pluto making its final swing through Sagittarius where it has transformed (Pluto) all aspects of the way we construct our theology of the meaning of life (Sagittarius), Obama and McCain joined televangelist Rick Warren for what may be the first of its kind forum for US Presidential candidates.  The fact that candidates feel it is important to share their faith with the country is an unusual development in itself, as this has not in the past been a highlight of […]

Ceres may be an impersonator!!

CeresThanks to Astrococktail for the link to this article.Last year Ceres was reclassified as a planet along with Pluto and the new planet Eris as a “dwarf planet,” and most recently as a “Plutoid.”

Ceres has an interesting history: when it was first discovered scientists hailed Ceres as a new planet, but then after Neptune was discovered and it was much larger, Ceres was […]
