Sunday Inspiration: The lifting of the storm

Your grief for what you’ve lost lifts a mirror up to where you’re bravely working. Expecting the worst, you look, and instead here’s the joyful face you’ve been wanting to see. Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open,  you’d be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as bird wings.   –Rumi

Easter Week at Astrological Musings

inanna descent into underworldMost of the so-called Christian holidays have deep roots in astrotheology, and Easter is no different.  The very dating of Easter, the great holiday of resurrection, is based on the timing of the first Full Moon after the vernal equinox.

This week I’ll be posting articles correlating astrology, or astrotheology, and Easter.  Today’s post comes from Beth Turnage and focuses on one of my favorite stories: the descent of Inanna.  Often I tell this story to clients who are undergoing transits of Pluto that require them to venture […]

Aries New Moon today!

The Aries New Moon on April 14th brings with it a tremendous amount of fresh new inspiration. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and the sign that marks the beginning of Spring, and the New Moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle. So here we have the beginning of the solar cycle combining with the initiation of the lunar cycle and providing an opportunity for a fresh start.

Aries asks the question:  What is it that I need?  Who am I as an individual, apart from […]

Avatar Blues

I haven’t yet seen the film Avatar so I can’t comment personally, but evidently some fans are reacting with depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film:

James Cameron’s completely immersive spectacle “Avatar” may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora.

On the fan forum site “Avatar Forums,” a topic thread entitled “Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible,” has received more than 1,000 posts from people experiencing depression […]

The Nature of Grief and Astrological Cycles

Throughout this year, with Chiron and Neptune traveling together, many of my clients have called me with overwhelming feelings of grief.  Often there is an event that appears to have caused these intense emotions, but sometimes the feelings appear to stem from events that occurred long ago.  A client who had mourned the loss of her mother that happened nine years ago.  Another who grieved the loss of her first marriage many years ago.  Suddenly, after many years, the emotions welled up seemingly from nowhere to take over their lives.
From my article on the Chiron/Neptune conjunction:

[…]

Ceres and the Swine Flu Connection

One of the interesting blogs you’ll find in my blogroll is Todd Chapman’s “Through the Looking Glass.”  Todd is an avid watcher of meaningful connections, and he has over time made an fascinating study of connections involving Ceres.  Todd writes,

Anyone familiar with my entire body of work will surely know that some of my earliest posts centered around the ancient mid-April festival of Cerealia, held in the honor of the Roman Goddess CERES. One of the “highlights” of the Cerealia was the porca pracidanea, the ritual sacrifice of a PIG. In previous articles over the past two years, […]

Banishing the Chiron Monsters

No matter how much wisdom we attempt to muster when we are approaching a difficult transit, there is no way to make it easy.  Sometimes, though, reframing the way we approach the challenge can turn the entire experience around for us.

In a flash of blogchronicity, Beth Owl’s Daughter has a post from yesterday on just this subject. Beth is guiding her readers through The Artist’s Way, Beth writes:

In today’s installment, we are encouraged to select one of our monster stories, and write it down in detail. You may have already […]
