Pluto in the natal chart: A case study

This article was originally posted in 2006.

Last week I saw a client (let’s call her Sylvia) whose birthchart demonstrates the power of Pluto. Sylvia’s Sun is in the hard-working sign of Capricorn: Capricorns typically have a difficult life when they’re young but because they’re such hard workers (ruled by the Celestial Taskmaster himself, Saturn) they can be quite powerful as they age and incorporate life’s lessons. She also has a Grand Trine including Mars, Jupiter and her Moon, bestowing a sense of […]

Longtime readers will know that for every U.S. presidential election I like to profile the candidates. Predicting the winner of an election is a tricky business as there are many factors involved (you can read all about that and the failure of astrologers to predict presidential elections in this earlier article).

One of the factors I consider is the chart and personality of the candidate. I also look at how they connect to the U.S. chart, and how current planetary conditions will affect them. I’m not going to attempt any predictions until we’ve looked at all the […]

Today’s partial solar eclipse is a powerhouse of grounded energy

solar eclipseToday’s New Moon in Capricorn is the first eclipse of the year: a partial Solar Eclipse in which the light of the Moon blocks out the Sun.  This eclipse occurs with five planets (including the Sun and Moon) all in the practical and grounded sign of Capricorn.

Though a solar eclipse typically brings out the heightened emotions of the Moon as the solar conscious principle is blocked by the lunar influence which is more reactive, this Capricorn New Moon is all about creating a new foundation which is solid and well balanced.  […]

Cancer Supermoon Eclipse! July 12, 2018

Cancer New MoonThe Cancer New Moon on the 12th is a Supermoon and a partial solar eclipse.  The term Supermoon (™ astrologer Richard Nolle) simply means that the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth.  When the Moon is full and a Supermoon it appears large in the sky.  When the Supermoon is a New Moon, we can’t see it at all because the light of the Sun obscures the Moon.  When the New Moon is an eclipse, the Sun is obscured as well.

The symbolism of an eclipse is […]

The astrology of the “Full Flower Moon” in Sagittarius, May 29 2018

full flower moon may 2018This month’s Sagittarius Full Moon asks that we dig deep into our hearts to find our adventurous spirit.   Called the “Flower Moon” because in the northern hemisphere, where these names originated, May is the month where flowers reach their maximum bloom, this May Full Moon inspires us to reach beyond the stars into the great unknown to find our place there.

Zodiacal polarities are opposites, with each sign having something that the other lacks.  Gemini wants to take in every single bit of information without discrimination, just for […]

Lunar eclipse in Leo, February 10 2017: A fiery awakening

Photo from Deviant Art Photo from Deviant Art

Eclipses are said to awaken something which has been hidden – to unmask and expose truth.  The eclipse in Leo demands that we look at the ways in which we express our ego (Leo) and purify these expressions so that they truly reflect the depths of who we are (Aquarius).  This dance between the development of the personal Self (Leo) and the more detached and reasoned way of looking at the world (Aquarius) is a tricky one.

Fortunately this eclipse features a Grand […]

Sunday inspiration: Jupiter trine Saturn

10336740_10154218834010393_6500362005937514528_nThis week marks the final phase of the trine formation between Jupiter and Saturn that began in July 2013, peaked in December 2013, and is now waning and will soon disappear.

Throughout most of 2013 Jupiter (in Cancer) and Saturn (in Scorpio) were part of a Grand Trine in water planets that included Neptune in Pisces.  The trine formation looks like a big triangle and is considered one of the softer aspects which provide support and harmony, something which has been much needed in the midst of the stressful […]

The world has been watching Prince William and Kate Middleton as they wait for the birth of their first child.  Kate went into labor this morning and it is likely that the new heir to the British throne will be born today, just after the Full Moon in Capricorn.

Aquarius Full Moon, July 22 2013

Aquarius Full Moon Photo from CaptainKimo.com

We are in the midst of a very active planetary environment right now.   Mercury has just turned direct after a retrograde period, and Uranus and Pluto are still creating tension that will require us to let go to the force of irrefutable change.  Mars aligns with Jupiter today, evoking a burst of energy and activity that will help us to break free of any delays imposed by Mercury’s retrograde passage.  The watery grand trine (see the sidebar for a link to more information) is in […]

Mars enters Cancer and the summer heats up

mars in cancer 2013Mars in Cancer, July 13 – August 27, 2013 Tomorrow I will post on the Zimmerman verdict and what it means in the current planetary climate, but on Sundays I try to keep an inspirational focus rather than delve into politics and ugliness. Mars entered Cancer July 13, 2013 and tempers are likely to flare over the next few weeks.  Mars is in Cancer every two years or s0, and because Mars is the planet of aggression and drive it is not very comfortable in the emotional sign […]
