Who is Alexandria Ocasio Cortez? The astrological profile

Embed from Getty Images

This was originally posted in January 2019 but has been updated to reflect the availability of her birth time.  Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was recently elected to the US House of Representatives from the 14th District of New York – the youngest woman ever to be elected to Congress.  Not only that, she is in the middle of her first Saturn Return.

The Saturn Return happens to each of us every 28-30 years when Saturn, traveling through its orbit around the Sun, returns to the degree of the sign that it holds in our natal astrological chart.  Because Saturn represents the virtues […]

The astrology of the Las Vegas shooter

Las Vegas shooter astrologyAfter the worst mass shooting in modern US history (we can save the massacre of the native Americans for another discussion but let’s not forget it entirely), and that is really saying something since we have had more than 1,500 shootings since the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012, there appears to be nearly no information about the shooter, now deceased, who masterminded the plot to kill as many people as possible from the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel.  With the recent news that Stephen Paddock was […]

Journeys with Mars and the Uranus/Pluto square

Art by Kathleen Farago Art by Kathleen Farago

I’m finishing up the Planetary Illuminations report, but I wanted to give you a heads up on this important cycle.

You can read in the sidebar about the square aspect between Uranus and Pluto that has been creating intensity, drama and change since the two planets first came together back in 2011 (their first meeting was just a degree from exactitude, but close enough to pack a punch).  The sixth exact square is in mid-December, but during November they will be moving […]

Astrology today: Grand Cross update, April 21 2014

april grand cross

In April, a big lineup of planets in cardinal signs of action have created stress and tension with opportunities for release and transformation.  Transformation is not always easy, and the tension of the grand cross can bring conflict and crisis.  Sometimes the intensity is more than certain individuals can bear, and we see this play out in the news.

Mars, planet of aggression, has been traveling retrograde where it is dredging up old resentments and because it is traveling so slowly, its influence is stronger […]

The Cardinal Drama peaks tonight

The Gilchrist Mandala

As I’ve been writing and discussing on the radio show, this is the week that the second wave of the Cardinal Drama peaks (the Cardinal signs are the signs of action and initiation: Libra, Aries, Cancer and Capricorn).  Saturn is now in Libra along with Mars opposite Jupiter and Uranus in Aries, Pluto is in Capricorn.

For a few hours tonight, after the Moon enters Cancer at around 6 pm EDT, the Moon will enter the fray, opposing Pluto (180 degree aspect) and forming […]

Capricorn Full Moon eclipse June 26, complete with Grand Cross

Saturday’s Full Moon is also a partial lunar eclipse, and includes a powerful alignment of seven planets in a Grand Cross formation.

Let’s first look at the lunation (lunar event) itself.  The Sun in Cancer is opposed by the Moon in Capricorn, and because the lunar nodes are within 15 degrees of the Moon (in this case the nodes are 8 degrees from the Moon) the lunation becomes an eclipse.

This in itself is significant, because the lunar nodes are connected to the evolutionary journey of the soul, from past (the South […]

David Carradine found dead

David Carradine was found dead today in his hotel room in Bangkok where he was shooting his latest film “Stretch.”  Carradine was found naked with a rope around his deck.  He was 72.

The minute I heard about this, intuitively I felt that this was a case of erotic asphyxiation, and now the BBC is reporting that Carradine was found with a curtain rope around his neck “and other parts of his body.”  TMZ claims that Carradine’s rep says that the death was 100% accidental, and I can’t think of too many ways that someone […]

Hillary Clinton and the Moon’s Nodes

Hillary Clinton’s chart shows that she has the planet Saturn making a very tight square to the nodes of the Moon. The lunar nodes are not planets in the chart and don’t carry any energy of the personality; they are like signposts that point us in the direction from our evolutionary past to our future.

Tight aspects from a planet to the nodes of the Moon often indicate a karmic issue that an individual brings with them from a previous lifetime. Saturn, being the planet of order and governance, is an indicator that Clinton came into this existence with […]

A Powerhouse of an Equinox

The Vernal Equinox occurs tomorrow, March 20, at 2 am EST as the Sun enters Aries, marking the re-entry of the fire element into our planetary cycles. The opposition of Mars in Cancer to Pluto in Capricorn has certainly been fiery, but the fire element has been notably missing.

The chart for the Vernal Equinox point features the Equinox Sun nearly exactly square to Pluto and still within orb of a square to Mars which is moving away from that pesky opposition point. Pluto, which is stationing (slowing down) in preparation for its retrograde turn, is amplified in intensity. […]

Big Full Moon on Friday. I mean, really big!

solstice_moon_illusion_1The full Moon of Dec. 12th is the biggest and brightest full Moon of the year.

It’s no illusion. Some full Moons are genuinely larger than others and this Friday’s is a whopper. Why? The Moon’s orbit is an ellipse with one side 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other: diagram. In the language of astronomy, the two extremes are called “apogee” (far away) and “perigee” (nearby). On Dec. 12th, the Moon becomes full a scant 4 hours after reaching perigee, making it 14% bigger and 30% brighter than […]
