Full Moon

Fall into the drama of the Equinox Aries Full Moon, September 24th

Aries New MoonAries is the first sign of the zodiac – the sign of action, initiation, adventure, independence and courage.  Ruled by Mars, Aries has an aggressive force but it is a force for self-expression and self-awareness.  When the Moon is in Aries, we find ourselves willing to face our fears and inspired to break through the barriers that keep us from blazing the trail of our highest desires.

As in every Full Moon, this Aries Full Moon is opposite the Libra Sun, setting the Aries focus of initiating something new to […]

Capricorn Full Moon! July 14-15, 2011

Full Moon Capricorn July 15 2011 Image by Donovan Zimmerman

The Capricorn Full Moon the 15th occurs with the Moon in Capricorn opposite the Cancerian Sun. Signs in opposition are like the Yin/Yang symbol – each sign contains what the other lacks, and the Full Moon requires that we integrate those opposing forces. The Cancerian Sun is concerned with family and feeling – a connection to our tribe and our ancestors. There is an emotional focus that personalizes everything we see. The Capricorn Moon is all about responsibilities and prefers to put […]

This Full Moon is a Supermoon

Full Moon Supermoonphoto taken from www.forphotography.com.

The Full Moon on January 30st will be a very interesting event – so interesting that it’s getting its own radio show entitled “Fire and the Full Moon.”  It’s not only a powerful Moon astrologically, but it’s at perigee, meaning it’s at its closest proximity to the Earth.  This is why it is so big and beautiful, but it’s also more powerful now.  Spaceweather says it’s the biggest Full Moon of the year, and astrologer Richard Nolle, who coined the term “Supermoon” […]

Solstice Full Moon tomorrow!

I interrupt the Obama series to bring you the Full Moon! NASA reports:

On Wednesday night, June 18th, step outside at sunset and look around. You’ll see a giant form rising in the east. At first glance it looks like the full Moon. It has craters and seas and the face of a man, but this “moon” is strangely inflated. It’s huge!

You’ve just experienced the Moon Illusion.

There’s no better time to see it. The full Moon of June 18th is a “solstice moon”, coming only two days before the beginning of northern summer. This […]

Full Moon! And Other Planetary News

I’m finishing a hectic week so I will quote from Skywatch. I should be back to my regular schedule by Monday so please bear with me over the weekend. I will try to find interesting things for you to read, though.

On the 18th Mercury trines both Pluto and Saturn, enhancing their influence on each other as they dance together but never aspect each other completely. The addition of Mercury to this combination increases our understanding of the process on a much more conscious level. This is a great time to make plans for the […]

Big Full Moon on Friday. I mean, really big!

solstice_moon_illusion_1The full Moon of Dec. 12th is the biggest and brightest full Moon of the year.

It’s no illusion. Some full Moons are genuinely larger than others and this Friday’s is a whopper. Why? The Moon’s orbit is an ellipse with one side 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other: diagram. In the language of astronomy, the two extremes are called “apogee” (far away) and “perigee” (nearby). On Dec. 12th, the Moon becomes full a scant 4 hours after reaching perigee, making it 14% bigger and 30% brighter than […]

Full Moons gain respect!

A police inspector in Sussex England recently discovered solid evidence for a link between criminal behavior and full moons: “I compared a graph of full moons and a graph of last year’s violent crimes and there is a trend.” Full moons and paydays were the two major links to an increase in aggressive behavior.

Something we who watch the moon have known for quite some time!
