A few astrological thoughts about the Omicron variant

art by Lori Portka

When I sat down to write this week’s forecast this came out instead. Thank you for your patience!

I’d like to say a few words about the new virus variant Omicron. There are a lot of astrologers who are making a variety of astrological connections – this is happening because Neptune is in Pisces. It’s because there was a large grouping of planets in one sign last year.  It’s because there’s a fixed star called Omicron Piscium so this must be fate (it turns out there […]

Managing grief in a pandemic

art by Erisiar

Most of us thought we’d be out of here by now – the daily pressures of how to navigate this new world is getting kind of old. Is it safe to see our friends? What do I do about my job?  It looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel but the way is not yet clear.  Meanwhile we are still grieving losses, both old and new. Friendships that were broken. Spouses and other family members that have passed on.  Seven million humans […]

Sunday inspiration: The meaning of Catastrophe

Court Games Tarot

A portion of this article was originally published in 2013.  I dug it out of the archives because we are living through a plethora of catastrophes: a pandemic, the overthrow of many governments around the world, volcanoes, cyclones, fires… but there is inspiration to be found in all of these events which transform the world we know in ways which we would not expect.

The word catastrophe comes from the Greek “katastrophē” meaning “a sudden turn, an overturning,”  “a reversal of what is expected.”  In the tragedies […]

Thoughts on the astrology of the remainder of 2020

I was asked to create a video for the Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship on the astrology for the remainder of 2020, and I thought that was a great idea in light of how the entire world has changed since I wrote my forecast for 2020.  Here it is for you!  If you like these videos please subscribe to the channel.  Sorry, there is no transcription for this video but I hope you enjoy it anyway. ❤️

Thoughts on Pluto square Eris, January 2020 – October 2021

Eris is a small planet which was discovered in 2003.  Her Roman name was Discordia – she is the goddess who, when not invited to a wedding, began the Trojan War by throwing a golden apple marked “for the fairest” into a circle of goddesses, beginning a dispute that threw Greece into turmoil for ten years.  (Read more about the mythology of Eris here.)  Eris moves very slowly – its orbital cycle is 560 years which is more than twice as long as Pluto’s orbit – so […]

Jupiter conjunct Pluto and dangerous (Pluto) beliefs (Jupiter)

We usually think of Jupiter as the lord of good fortune, optimism, and expansion in all things and certainly that’s true.  Jupiter is also connected to our search for meaning, and the philosophies and theologies that we create to make sense of the world.   Pluto is an outer planet – not reflecting a facet of the personality as the personal planets do, Pluto represents the power of creative destruction to transform and empower, often symbolized by death and resurrection.  Its power is intense and focused, and therefore can denote […]

Sunday inspiration for life as a human on Planet Earth

Today’s inspiration comes from Palden Jenkins.  Palden is an astrologer and great thinker whom I admire.  I first discovered him through his wonderful Historical Ephemeris with tables of planetary phenomena and analyses of major planetary cycles.

Palden has stage four cancer and has moved back to his home in Cornwall.  His experience of the Coronavirus landscape has this added quality gained from looking into the jaws of death.  Here are some recent writings from his Facebook page.

You who are ‘healthy’ and […]

When the King of the Gods meets the King of the Underworld: Jupiter conjunct Pluto in 2020

Jupiter conjunct plutoJupiter is the planet from which the kindly word “jovial” derives and which is said to act as the Greater Benefic in the lives of men.  It expands our world both physically and mentally, instilling a desire for greater knowledge and high philosophies. As a result, Jupiter has a tendency to constantly be pushing boundaries (boundaries are associated with Saturn) and resists responsibility in the name of freedom.   Under the influence of Jupiter we seek to know god, or to be god as the quality of hubris is woven […]

Sunday Inspiration: For the Interim Time

The spread of the Coronavirus is probably the single biggest event to occur in our time because it affects the entire global community.  It’s frightening, and confusing – and yet if we take a broader view it makes so much sense.  Many of us have been shouting about climate change.  The world is overheating, and species are dying off.  Poor nutrition and lifestyle choices are wreaking havoc on human health, even in the so-called “blue zones” where people historically have lived to be 100.  This has already threatened to […]
