Planetary news this week: Capricorn SuperMoon and a lot of Mercury

Astrological update for the week of July 11-18, 2022

As many of you know, a Full Moon becomes a SuperMoon (™ astrologer Richard Nolle) when the Moon is closest to Earth than at other times. Full Moons are known to affect ocean tides and sea creatures (including humans who are made up of 60% water), and water is the element of feeling and emotion. Under the influence of the Moon emotions are heightened and the realm of feelings dominates the landscape.

An important astrological week: Capricorn Full Moon, and much more

Today’s Capricorn Full Moon is being advertised in mainstream hype as a SuperMoon but it doesn’t technically meet the standards set by Richard Nolle who came up with that term in the 1970s as a way to describe a lunation, or syzygy, which was at its closest point to Earth and therefore more powerful.  At any rate, this Full Moon is powerful in its own right.

At a Capricorn Full Moon we find ourselves at the balance point of the Capricorn/Cancer polarity.  The Sun is in Cancer, filtering our outer experiences through […]

This Capricorn Full Moon helps to calm rattled nerves

Mars turned retrograde on June 26th, and even the Planetary K index which measures geomagnetic activity reacted with a level 5 storm, helping to intensity even more the aggression and heightened energy of the Mars station (catch up with Mars retrograde here).

The Moon is full in steady Capricorn now to help us find greater balance. Capricorn is the penultimate sign of practicality and worldly achievement – it helps us to focus our energy towards a goal and gain great rewards.  Capricorn is ruled by the Saturn – the […]

Planetary News this week: Retrogrades and a Capricorn Full Moon

astrological forecast(Note for newbies:  “retrograde” means that as we observe it from earth, a planet appears to be moving backwards in the sky.  Planets obviously don’t cycle backwards, but from our perspective they do appear to and we call that “retrograde.”  When a planet is retrograde its astrological influence is more personal, it often turns our attention inwards and encourages reflection and a going back over things in our lives that may not be working as well as they could.)

I’ve been writing a lot about Mars retrograde because that’s the “in […]

Capricorn Full Moon, July 9 2017: Find your footing in the midst of chaos

Capricorn Full Moon Full Moon by Dave Weir

The Full Moon is the culmination of the lunar cycle. Beginning with the New Moon, when the Sun and Moon are fused and the solar and lunar energies combine to spark a new beginning, the Moon waxes in the sky into a beautiful glowing orb of magic and wonder at the Full Moon.

Full Moons are known to have an effect on the ocean tides, and because the Moon operates astrological at the heart level it touches the soul and stimulates a yearning for […]

Big & Powerful Capricorn Full Moon: July 1, 2015

Full Moon July 1 2015 Photo manipulation by Amin Sedig from Moonipulations

Today’s Full Moon in Capricorn is a big and powerful one, amplified by both Mars and Pluto which are moving into a dance of opposition which will culminate on the 15th of July.

The Capricorn Full Moon brings our focus to the material world and encourages us to apply discipline and structure to our lives so that we can create something of meaning – something that will last beyond our small and mortal life.  The Moon is opposed by […]

First of three Supermoons: July 12 2014

Supermoon July 2014The first of the summer Supermoons will take place on July 12th.  The term Supermoon was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle to describe the Moon that when full (i.e., opposite the Sun) is at its perigee or closest point to the earth.

When a Supermoon occurs at a Full Moon the effect of the lunation is amplified.  Everyone responds differently to Full Moons.  Some become more emotional.  Some become more anxious.  Some (like me!) have trouble sleeping.  Some have no experience of a Full Moon at […]

Sunday inspiration: Finding balance in the Capricorn Moon

June Supermoon from Theoi.com

Today’s Full Moon is getting a lot of press because it’s literally the biggest Full Moon of the year – a Supermoon as coined by astrologer Richard Nolle.

From a post on the Astrosignum Facebook page: “When the Moon’s feminine energy is combined with Capricorn’s discipline and drive for success, the result is a powerful, successful and disciplined female. The Greek goddess Athena immediately came to mind as a feminine archetype that knows her own worth and is not afraid to engage in the […]

Capricorn Full Moon: July 3, 2012

Capricorn Full Moonby Lynn Hayes Today’s Full Moon has the potential to bring more than the usual fireworks for Independence Day here in the US.  The Moon is in the pragmatic and practical sign of Capricorn where planning and a solid approach to the matters at hand is required.  However, the Moon has just passed through the gates of Pluto which has intensified and magnified its energy, which means that the Moon has also faced off in a challenging aspect (square) to Uranus, inspiring resistance and rebellion.

Meanwhile […]

Capricorn Full Moon eclipse June 26, complete with Grand Cross

Saturday’s Full Moon is also a partial lunar eclipse, and includes a powerful alignment of seven planets in a Grand Cross formation.

Let’s first look at the lunation (lunar event) itself.  The Sun in Cancer is opposed by the Moon in Capricorn, and because the lunar nodes are within 15 degrees of the Moon (in this case the nodes are 8 degrees from the Moon) the lunation becomes an eclipse.

This in itself is significant, because the lunar nodes are connected to the evolutionary journey of the soul, from past (the South […]
