1960s astrology

Why do some people have difficult charts, 1966 edition

As someone with a difficult chart myself, I have long pondered this question.  For me, nothing other than astrology supports the idea of working out issues, problems and situations through multiple lifetimes.  We are born with these charts before anything happens to us, and when we have a difficult chart and our life patterns echo the patterns in the chart, it’s difficult to blame our parents or our upbringing for these situations.  I find this comforting – the knowing that there is a rhyme and reason to personal challenges gives me a sense of purpose and helps to make […]

The Astrology of the Summer of Love

Summer of Love astrology Summer of Love by Peter Max

It’s hard to believe for anyone who is old enough to have lived through the summer of 1967 which was called the Summer of Love, but this marks the 50th anniversary of that fertile and creative time when traditional values of love and community were turned on its head and some of the best music ever created was born.

Astrologers have a name for what happened in the 1960s: We call it the “Uranus Pluto conjunction.”  During this time Uranus, planet of revolution and […]

Reader question: How can we adapt in an unjust world?

Serenity Charm by James Avery Serenity Charm by James Avery

Gina asks,

As a person born in Aug 1966, I have (it seems to this amateur) that there is such an emphasis in my natal chart of Saturn and Chiron. I also have Uranus and Pluto in my 12th so I feel like I can get weighed down with the concerns of the collective and have experienced some eerie coincidences when I have experienced depression before a large event. So I can’t help but notice injustice (and there […]

Sinead O’Connor and the Chiron/Pluto Cry for Help

9781720752_17ac4105b6_zSinead O’Connor, the Irish singer with a long history of controversy and dramatic life events, was recently in the news after a post on her Facebook page claimed that she had taken an overdose and was in an unnamed hotel.  She was eventually found and was not harmed, but her apparent mental illness has become a topic of discussion in the entertainment news circles.

Between 1962 and 1968 or so, Uranus (radical behavior) and Pluto (destruction and rebirth) were aligned in a conjunction in the sky, the last time these two planets were locked in […]

“Don’t call me a Baby Boomer”

The majority of people don’t know it, but the division of people into generations is really based on astrology.  The Baby Boomers, for instance, are loosely tied  to the post-war period between 1946 and 1964.  However, as I wrote a few years ago, there is a huge difference between the early boomers, with Pluto in Leo, and the late b[l]oomers, who were born after 1956 with Pluto in Virgo.

A recent New York Times article pleads “Don’t call me a Baby Boomer“:

This year the […]

The power of 1962

aquarius stelliumThis image is an actual gift basket that can be purchased here

Everywhere I look these days I am reminded of 1962. This year marks the 50th anniversary of 1962, so it is an important anniversary and coincides with the Chiron Return. First I wrote a blog post about Demi Moore, born in 1962. A commenter wrote that actress Janine Turner was also born in 1962, and I followed up with a comment of other major stars born in 1962: Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Matthew Broderick, […]

The astrology of the sexual revolution: Part 2

Catch up on Part 1 here

astrology beat generationBeginning in 1954 when Tupperware parties began putting money in the pockets of housewives and Playboy Magazine began sowing seeds of dissatisfaction in the lusty hearts of suburban dads, the ground was being fertilized for the sexual revolution that was to come later in the 1960s.  Saturn continued to travel through Scorpio until January of 1956, testing the structures of power and forcing confrontation in areas of sexuality.  It was during this period that sexuality researcher Alfred Kinsey’s funding was cut […]

The astrological history of the sexual revolution: Part 1

sexual revolutionA reader on my Facebook page suggested a connection between Saturn in Libra and the sexual revolution.  Saturn was actually in Libra between 1950 and 1953, placing it a little earlier than the actual sexual revolution which we typically think of occurring in the 1960s along with all of the other revolutions brought about by the conjunction of Uranus (the revolutionary) with Pluto (the transformer).  But it can definitely be argued that Saturn’s passage through Libra, the sign of relationships, created some of the challenges that led […]

Take a Trip Back to 1969: Time Magazine Article on Astrology

I found this article from April 1969 when I was looking for statistics on how many astrologers there are in the world today (according to Time Magazine, in 1969 there were 10,000 full time and 175,000 part-time astrologers in the US alone.  I’m fairly certain right now we number in the millions).  Remember in the late 1960s the hippie mystique was just going mainstream, with “flower child” boutiques and head shops springing up all over America and Europe.

One notable quote:

Preposterous as it may be, the astrology cult suggests a […]
