Over the next 10 days or so we will see Mars align with Pluto, forming an alliance that could have a strong effect in our personal lives as well as in the world at large.
Mars is often thought of as the planet of war, anger and aggression and all of these qualities are a part of the Mars archetype. But Mars also represents the individual Will – the power that we all possess to create an intention followed by the initiation of an action. When we have a desire to make something happen in our lives, that is our Will at work.
Pluto is usually defined as the planet of death and rebirth, or as I like to call it, the planet of destruction and regeneration. Under the auspices of Pluto we often find that the forces of the subconscious become more powerful and relentless and that aspects of our lives are forever changed. Pluto represents a force that acts beyond our control, and to me this force manifests as the Will of the Higher self.
When Mars and Pluto collide it can be with a deadly force of destructive rage and anger, or it can be with a conscious intention to focus the powerful energy to achieve a goal. This after all is the force of Magick – the bending of matter in the earthly realm through the force of Will. Under a Mars/Pluto conjunction this can only be done effectively when the individual Will (Mars) is acting in harmony with the Higher Self (Pluto).
This can be a powerful time of great reward if we utilize mindfulness and attention and infuse intention into our reactions.
In my work, Mars represents the individual will because it motivates and inspires desire which leads to action. The Sun represents the vitality of the Self and shows the experiences the individual needs to shine.
You are correct that when Mars and Pluto are linked they can be powerful allies for us and that is certainly true in the harmonious planetary alignments (trine, sextile). Conjunctions can be more intense, and the energy carried by a Mars Pluto conjunction can be difficult to manage without a conscious attempt to do so.
Having endured Pluto opposing Uranus squaring, my 0Cancer sun, 8Cancer merc and now Pluto finally moving off from squaring my just under 15 Libra moon or at least what was left of it after Uranus opposed under the cardinal grand cross, I agree with you, the Pluto axis is very much the Higher Self challenging ones deep fear driven contaminations at the core level of belief, the challenge being to overcome it and rise without becoming egomaniacal (Pluto) or having a messiah complex (Higher self), My moon is in 12th house, so very much a feeling of purgatory for crimes I didn’t commit plus I had my chiron return in the middle of it, yet as they say what doesn’t kill you and so far, I am still here lol and yet humbled by the awesome power of these transits. However, I still don’t assume myself to be above healing and maintain doing so through the light and shadow of each day (Higher self objective, shadow self subjective) for that harmony and balance to be found at least on a daily basis, not easy, yet worth it lol!

However, I still don’t assume myself to be above healing and maintain doing so through the light and shadow of each day (Higher self objective, shadow self subjective) for that harmony and balance to be found at least on a daily basis, not easy, yet worth it lol! The miracles are tiny and yet it does indeed render one truly grateful for small mercies.
Thank you for sharing your story, Debbie. That 12th house Moon can be a major asset as it helps to keep that sense of being connected to Spirit and higher guidance throughout the trauma of destruction and regeneration.
