Since the beginning of time, humans have debated the source of consciousness. Is it all in the physical brain? Are we just a pack of neurons in a physical body? Is the sum total of all that we experience contained in the physical body?
A recent article in Aeon Magazine postulated:
Some consciousness researchers see the hard problem as real but inherently unsolvable; others posit a range of options for its account. Those solutions include possibilities that overly project mind into matter. Consciousness might, for example, be an example of the emergence of a new entity in the Universe not contained in the laws of particles [emphasis added].
Panpsychism is the theory that consciousness is the root of all things – a universal feature that links all beings and things. This kind of theory is a part of nearly all eastern religions as well as most ancient philosophies, but fell out of favor with the emergence of the scientific method which required empirical proof rather than speculation.
With Neptune, the planet that inspires in us the direct experience of divine consciousness, in its own sign of Pisces, it’s not surprising that there is a bit of a resurgence in the idea of pantheism and the idea that the Universe is itself conscious. Scientist Gregory Matloff has hypothesized that
humans may be like the rest of the universe in substance and in spirit. A “proto-consciousness field” could extend through all of space, he argues. Stars may be thinking entities that deliberately control their paths. Put more bluntly, the entire cosmos may be self-aware.

I myself have always felt it to be true that there is a Universal consciousness and wisdom which we can tap into. I’m excited that scientists are catching up to this idea, and that the realm of science might make room for ideas and new realities that may lie beyond that which can be scientifically proven.
We are all One. The Ancients knew this. Science is taking its own sweet time to arrive at this conclusion.
Thank you for this article, Lynne. It’s good to know that science is finally catching up!
Thanks Laura. ❤️
