Longtime readers will know that for every U.S. presidential election I like to profile the candidates. Predicting the winner of an election is a tricky business as there are many factors involved (you can read all about that and the failure of astrologers to predict presidential elections in this earlier article).

One of the factors I consider is the chart and personality of the candidate. I also look at how they connect to the U.S. chart, and how current planetary conditions will affect them. I’m not going to attempt any predictions until we’ve looked at all the candidates and assessed the astrological condition of the U.S. and that will take a while. For now I’m starting with Nikki Haley; I’ve already profiled the front runners (Trump here and Biden here) but I will update those profiles soon. Please note that while I try very hard to be neutral in these profiles occasionally my bias will seep through.

Depending on the time of birth Ms. Haley was born either with the Sun at 29 degrees Capricorn, the sign of the hard worker, or if she was born at night, at 0 degrees Aquarius.  The 29th degree is a particular dynamic in itself – the last degree of the zodiac. Also called the “anaretic” or “critical” degree of the zodiac, it either presents a final opportunity to perfect the experience of that sign, or it exhibits a mastery of the sign. The 0 degree point is also potent as the point of entry into a new sign.

Either way Saturn rules the Sun, and is trine the Sun; an astrological “double whammy” that shows just how hard a worker she is. Saturn teaches the mastery of the material world, and here we have a chart that is driven towards that mastery. There is insecurity here as well, with Saturn retrograde at the 29th degree. Success is not guaranteed, and people with Saturn retrograde tend to be particularly hard on themselves if they are not producing something worthwhile. And her Mercury is also in Capricorn, the sign of someone who is a practical thinker and she started doing the bookkeeping for her mother’s business when she was 13.

Earth signs tend to be more conservative and less idealistic, and Haley has them in abundance.

We don’t have a birth time for Ms. Haley which is unfortunate because not only is the ascendant unknown, we also don’t know the Moon sign. If she was born just after midnight her Moon would be gentle in mid-Pisces, and if she was born after 10 pm her Moon would be more assertive in Aries. Her Mars is in Aries so she already has that “badass” (her word) quality, and says she doesn’t wear heels for fashion but to “kick with a smile.” She has also been quoted as saying “I’m not a planner, doors open at a certain time” which seems to reflect a Pisces Moon although anything regarding the Moon is pure speculation without a time of birth.

Her Mars is opposed by Uranus, planet of rebellion, suggesting that she resists being controlled by others and will always seek her own way. Mercury forms a square aspect to both Mars and Uranus revealing a combative communication style (Mercury square Mars) and a tendency to think for herself (Mercury square Uranus).

A grand trine in the chart appears in the element of Earth, including Saturn, the earthiest of planets, in a trine to the Sun. Pluto, planet of power and transformation, is a part of that grand trine (out of sign or dissociate at rx 2° Libra) – the result is an incredibly stable strength which may sometimes take things for granted or become a bit complacent. (Grand trines, while favorable, can sometimes lead to complacency but the strong Saturn influence would offset this.)

Transiting Pluto is activating that Grand Trine in 2023 and 2024 which is a powerful suggestion of success. She does not currently have challenging planetary alignments which would cause major setbacks until 2025 when some of her illusions could require a reality check of some kind rendering her more vulnerable (transiting Neptune square Pluto).

The relationship between Ms. Haley’s chart and the Sibly chart of the U.S. is striking, with her Pluto sitting right on the Midheaven of the U.S. chart and her Capricorn Sun conjunct the U.S. Pluto. This Plutonic connection is incredibly potent and suggests that if she does reach the Presidency that her reign would lead to significant reorganization and change. Her South Node of the past conjoins the U.S. North Node of the future, often considered a karmic link with the suggestion that she, as the South Node link, could favorably impact the future (North Node) of the U.S.

An aspect from Uranus (radical change) in Ms. Haley’s chart to Saturn and the Sun of the U.S. chart suggest that her desire to create change will find resistance and it is unclear whether the transformative force will prevail. The U.S. Pluto return is at an end and the breakdown phase is complete, so there may be a willingness to face the difficult truths and revolutionize to the degree required.

It will be interesting to see what unfolds over the next six months as we head into primary season. (Source of biographical information and other interesting facts here.)
