Astrological update for the week of January 29-February 5, 2024

Next week Mercury and Ceres both change signs. The shifts of energy when a planet moves from one sign to another are often subtle, especially with faster moving planets like these that have a lighter footprint than some others (like Mars or Saturn), but they mark a change of direction that could ultimately have greater significance.
Mercury (mind and communication) has been in Capricorn where our thinking is more practical, and moves into Aquarius where we tend to think more about what could be. Ceres (nurturing of the soul) has been in Sagittarius where we hope for optimism to save us, and it will be moving into Capricorn where we need to be more practical and be sure to save our (figurative) nuts for the future.
Capricorn and Aquarius are zodiac signs of winter (northern hemisphere), both ruled traditionally by Saturn and marked by contraction and preservation. Under Capricorn we are more focused on the present moment and building for the future; under Aquarius (modern ruler Uranus) we use Saturnian principles combined with Uranian vision to take a broader and more transpersonal view to effect change.
