The Aries New Moon on March 20th at 6:45 pm Eastern time occurs at the Aries Point – the zero degree of Aries that marks the beginning of the entire zodiac. For the northern hemisphere, this marks the first day of spring (you Aussies and Kiwis, and anyone living in Antarctica, may want to read my earlier article about astrology in the southern hemisphere here).
The Aries Point gets a special mention in astrological literature. Kim Falconer writes, “the AP represents a movement (cardinal) from an inner quality to an outer manifestation. It orients us towards the world at large—society, public events and all relationships propelled from the individual to the collective.”
The sign of Aries is itself the beginning of manifestation in the world – the point of initiation and assertive dynamic experiences that push us into the world itself. Any New Moon marks a new beginning – the beginning of a new lunar cycle that wipes the slate clean and provides an opportunity to create something new in our lives. Any Aries New Moon adds another layer of excitement and Marsy energy to stoke the fires and energize that creation.
A New Moon at the Aries Point is an explosion of fresh new potent creative enthusiasm that can provide the motivation we need to begin something anew. The challenging square (90 degree aspect) between Uranus and Pluto is still very tight, the two planets are just 9 minutes apart, so the adjustment is not easy. Uranus breaks apart the old way and leaves us to put together the pieces. Pluto assists with the destruction and reminds us who we really are at our core so that when we rebuild our lives we follow the imprint of the soul, and not chase after the mind and ego.
This New Moon is also a solar eclipse, allowing the unmasking of the lunar unconscious and obscuring the rational mind. Eclipses generally bring an awakening of some sort and this one is particularly potent.
I am feeling this New Moon like a shower of brilliant light, washing away the debris of the past and illuminating the way forward. Jupiter’s beneficence and opportunity is linked in a harmonious trine to the radical innovation of Uranus, offering us a dazzling new intelligence with which to open new doors. Mercury (the mind) and Neptune (transcendence) align in Pisces where we become more sensitive to the inner dynamic of the soul and find it easier to tap into our own sensitive creativity and intuition.
Bathe in the shower of this beautiful light – close your eyes and connect with your own soul for guidance. All of the magic is available to us now and amazing things can happen!
As an Aries myself, I am very excited for this event and what wonderful things it means. Thanks for your thoughts and insight!
Dear Lynn,
Every month I appreciate receiving your thoughts on the upcoming month as I did it this March. Not least because of my birthday on the 23rd :)
After I read your article and the one of a Astro-colleague from Berlin I don’t stop thinking about what your both articles. The point ist, that the Equinox in your time took place in Aries, but in Europe (CET) it happend in picses. It is obvious that there must be an ingreasingly different interpretation.
I’d like to ask you about your experience about such a difference at an essential point.
Kind regards from Austria!
Sonja
Hi Sonja, and welcome! The Equinox occurs at the moment the Sun enters Aries, so it can never occur in Pisces. The Vernal Equinox is always at zero degrees Aries. So the interpretation would be the same, but the time of the “ingress” – the moment the Sun changes signs – would be different. So in New York the Equinox took place on March 20th at 6:45 pm, and in Austria the Equinox was also on March 20th but at 11:45 pm.
Thanks your nice message, Lynn!
I think it was 11:45 AM. And of course the Equinox is ‘per definitionem’ at 0° Aries … I was (Aries-like) a bit too fast …
What I am thinking about is the NEW MOON which took place in picses (CET), but in US – as you write – it was in aries. I am wondering about the differences.
Hope I was clear now. Thank you!
Nice regards, Sonja
