The mystical planet Neptune entered the mystical sign of Pisces in 2011, marking the beginning of a period that has been characterized by illusion and deception. Neptune isn’t inherently deceptive; its role in higher consciousness is to encourage the detachment from the mundane in order to have a transcendent experience of bliss and magic, artistry and inspiration. However, the rose-colored glass of Neptune, and the sign of its (modern) rulership Pisces, can lead to susceptibility and a tendency towards taking the easy road to belief under the traditional Pisces ruler: Jupiter.

Pisces is associated with viruses and the idea that something can spread mysteriously and unseen until it finally erupts in a crisis of some sort. The Ebola epidemic in Africa between 2013 and 2016 fell under Neptune in Pisces. In 2014 an ancient virus “sprang back to life” in Siberia after the melting of ice which had caused it to sleep for 30,000 years. But viruses are not only diseases: You may remember the frenzy over the end of the world in 2011 and 2012 with the end of the Mayan calendar which spread like wildfire, or a virus, over the Internet.

The master of disinformation, and the fulcrum of much of it, is Donald J. Trump who has had a remarkable and unique effect on the zeitgeist of the U.S., and the world at large. He was well-known for the Trumpster Hyperbole, as Vanity Fair called it – exaggerating the size of his buildings, his business, and his assets. However, Trump wasn’t taken very seriously until Neptune entered Pisces in 2011. That was the year that he began to question whether Obama was born in the U.S. and therefore questioned his eligibility to be president. We all know about the misinformation that surrounded the 2020 election which I will not rehash here.

Since then, with Neptune in Pisces and the cooperation of the Internet, viruses of lies and misinformation has continued to spread. During the initial phases of the Covid-19 emergency in the Saturn/Pluto conjunction, misinformation regarding the virus story flowed on both sides of the political spectrum. Pisces is traditionally ruled by Jupiter, the planet that governs belief and ideology, and reactions to the pandemic appeared to be almost religious in nature, whichever side one was on.

In any case, Neptune is leaving Pisces for Aries March 30, 2025 which is not that far off. It will go back and forth from Aries to Pisces for a year or so during which a readjustment of some kind will certainly occur. The shift from Pisces to Aries is an abrupt one, moving from the mystical Piscean flow to the sharp action-oriented blade of Aries. The last time Neptune was in Pisces, between 1847 and 1862, tensions were building for the Civil War which began when Neptune entered Aries in 1861 (there was a transition period between 1861 and 1862 when Neptune went back and forth between the two signs). It wasn’t just the United States that experienced conflict, the 1860s were marked by wars and the invasions in South America, Europe, Asia and Russia.

The zero degree point of Aries, also called the “Aries Point,” marks the beginning of the zodiac and is therefore critically important in astrology. It is the point of origin, and in this time of change and flux with all three outer planets, plus Saturn, changing signs over the next couple of years, I think it’s likely that the conflicts which are bubbling along under the surface will begin to erupt in fairly dramatic ways.

Astrologers, myself included, like to look back at what occurred the last time a planetary condition was active to predict what will happen this time. But that adage “history doesn’t repeat, it rhymes” also describes astrological patterns – the past does not equal the future. Still we can glean some hints of what we might expect. I am imagining something like a volcano or earthquake, where warnings of danger over a period of years finally result in a cataclysm when we have ceased paying attention, lulled into relaxation by the Piscean glamour and mystic light.

It isn’t all doom and gloom, however – Pluto in Aquarius will harmonize with Neptune in Aries to help facilitate transformation and awakening, but the dearth of Earth will be difficult for anyone who is hopeful to go back to a different time. The world is changing unalterably, and every global citizen will need to adapt.
