We’re coming down the home stretch, and I continue to get queries about the election so I thought I’d share some thoughts. Most of the predictions I’ve read have been based on the charts of the two candidates and most of those have relied on the strength of the planetary cycles each candidate is experiencing. The prevailing idea seems to be that the candidate with the most harmonious planetary conditions will prevail, but that’s not how this works. It’s often during the most grueling and challenging planetary cycles that we enjoy the greatest successes. In addition, the election of a leader of a nation has more to do with the state of that nation than the candidates who become more of a symbol of the major themes experiencing in the country at the time.
I prepared a little video for my channel:
Some astrologers use the conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn for prediction: Jupiter represents expansion and freedom, and Saturn represents restriction and control. In the United States currently these major themes appear to be Law and Order and Nationalist Pride with a Governmental Control sub-theme (Saturn themes) on the Republican side vs Environmental Issues and Social Justice (Jupiter)with a sub-theme of COVID-19 safety on the Democratic side. I read one article from an astrologer who claimed that Jupiter represents Republicans and Saturn Democrats, but I suppose it depends on your viewpoint. Democrats tend to prefer bigger government with more services which would fall under the generosity of Jupiter, whereas Republicans seek greater control through adherence to laws and the structures of religion which to be is more Saturnian.
I mention this only to suggest that perhaps her predictive techniques are similarly not free from bias. The point that the globalism of the 20th century will give rise to nationalism is, I believe, a wise one. The mixing of cultures which occurred under the globalist movements of the Pluto in Sagittarius period (1995-2008) have been followed by the economic contraction of the Pluto in Capricorn period (2008-2023) in which there has been greater restriction of global movement and cultural integration.
The Great Chronocrator of the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction is moving from predominantly earth signs (since 1802) to air when the two planets align in Aquarius in December 2020. Although we have been in a heavily Capricornian time of restriction and rules with both Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, we will be moving into a time of air. In its cloak of modernity, Aquarius is associated with social justice and the need for change and the element of air generally is more receptive to new ideas and the free flow of information. In addition, both Saturn will align in a strong square (90 degree) aspect to Uranus throughout 2021, which suggests a power play between a new order (Uranus) and conservative values (Saturn). Pluto will move into Aquarius in 2023 and by the end of that cycle (2043) the US will have a minority white population. This naturally engenders a great deal of fear in a majority population and creates a resistance.
On top of all of this we are moving into the return of transiting Pluto (destruction, regeneration) to Pluto in the US chart. Transiting Saturn is crossing that point currently and bringing up fears from all sides, and in mid October the US progressed Moon transited US natal and progressed Pluto, bringing the fear and hysteria to a crescendo. This is the environment in which we go to the polls to select a leader to take us through the US Pluto return which will be in effect between 2022 and 2025.
Unfortunately, the sense of fear and deprivation engendered by the conjunction of Saturn and Pluto in 2019-2020 (in 2019 the two came within three degrees which touched off the actual conjunction in 2020) has worsened the political divide in the US and created an environment of distrust and rage which is likely to increase as we push ever closer to the US Pluto Return.
If we look at the chart of Donald J. Trump, we see transiting Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn all within range of a trine to his Midheaven or career point (using the 10:54 am birth certificate time). Many astrologers would see that as virtually guaranteeing a second term. These Capricorn planets also oppose his natal Saturn/Venus conjunction which has caused a great deal of upheaval in his personal life and associations, but that is nothing new for Mr. Trump. With his 6th house ruler (Saturn) opposing natal Saturn we might expect some kind of health crisis, but he seems to have magically escaped the detrimental effects of the virus after contracting it last month. There are some people who thrive in challenging planetary alignments, and Mr. Trump is one of those.
Joe Biden’s chances are a little more complex to analyze because while Trump supporters seem to mainly want Trump and Mike Pence doesn’t seem to factor into their choice much, Kamala Harris is a strong player in the Biden/Harris ticket. I wrote about this earlier in 2020:
When transiting Pluto hits Pluto in the US chart (Pluto return) in 2022, it will also align in a challenging square to her natal Sun/Moon opposition (Full Moon) which is somewhat worrying. Transits of Pluto, the planet of destruction and regeneration, can strip away obstacles to empower us, but they can also be debilitating and force us to let go of dreams and ideals which are no longer in the best interest of the evolutionary journey. The US Pluto Return has the potential of following both of these paths simultaneously, and it will be interesting to see what role Ms. Harris has to play in this.
In June 2019 I wrote that I did not believe that Joe Biden would complete the run for president in the fall of 2020, and indeed for a while it looked as though he would not. But the Coronavirus combined with a strong running mate have improved Biden’s chances.
In any case, the astrology suggests that there is likely to be a fair amount of confusion and chaos around the election results no matter who wins, and as a nation we are in for a rocky couple of years. But as individuals we can rise above the chaos and still enjoy lives of meaning and purpose.
As an Aquarian, I tend to think in the future tense and I can’t help but feel that there are clues to new national and global formations in these candidates’ charts that we can’t yet perceive. Many astrologers and political prognosticators have written off Biden over and over on this cycle, and Trump in 2016. I feel like that is because they’re both playing roles we can’t yet detect in our history yet to be written
Hi Daisy! Hope you and your family are well. That’s an interesting idea. Certainly when Pluto moves into Aquarius after the destruction of Pluto in Capricorn there will need to be new realignments so perhaps you are right.
I had a thought about Mercury retrograde’s role in the elections. We know, per the FBI, Russia will try to influence our election. We also know Republicans have been playing dirty tricks to try to suppress the vote.
What if mercury retrograde’s role serves to prevent the success of the foreign actors and suppressors? Everyone is so worried about not knowing who will win on election day because of rightful concern for these plotters, but maybe this will be the first time we say thank goodness for mercury retrograde? That it stepped in to foil the plans of all those who wish to subvert the will of the people.
Thoughts?
Lillian, I like this thought. A positive spin on the often over-blamed Mercury Retrograde. Be curious to hear other thoughts.
I’d also like to expand the concept you have here and suggest perhaps it’s about ANY sort of nefarious, cheating plans being foiled. Because I do my best to look at the WHOLE picture in the U.S. and, well, I can point to all sorts of people who are trying to cheat to swing the election away from the will of the people. Neither party in our duopoly has a monopoly on this cheating and there are outside forces doing what they can to swing the election to whichever person they feel best serves their interests.
I don’t know, Brian. While I’m also a firm believer on looking at things from both a macro and micro perspective, I don’t see Democrats suggesting absentee ballots will lead to fraud; or democrats defunding the USPS to create a back log of mail; or democrats reducing the number of available mail boxes and limiting how much postal workers can work; or democrats suing to prevent absentee ballots received after the 3rd, no matter the postmark, being counted; or democrats purging registration rolls; or democrats creating fake ballot boxes to steal absentee ballots; or… should I go on? Pretty sure Republicans do, in fact, have a monopoly on voter suppression.
I’d like to play my Libra role here and say you are both right. While I believe it’s true that the Democrats, being more from Venus and wanting to go along to get along, aren’t likely to cheat and pay power games while Republicans, being from Mars and mostly wanting to win at any cost, seem to find nothing objectionable in doing something just because you can (witness the recent Supreme Court debacle). But tracing this back to Pluto in the US house of money (2nd house), as long as money drives the election game there will be corruption and deception.
That’s an interesting idea Lilian, and we have seen all of this stuff about the secret laptop and other information that went nowhere. I suppose we could ascribe that to Mercury retrograde, but it was also kind of dumb and would likely have failed on its own without the assistance of Mercury. Personally I take a broader view and look at the sickness we are seeing in the soul of the US that really needs some major surgery.
Also thinking of putting it differently–these two candidates are so Saturnine–members of the gerontocracy. Which is why I think you’re right that Kamala’s chart is the one that points to the future, since they both represent the past.
Lynn, thank you so much for your last minute thoughts! I found your interpretation of the astrological complexities currently in play during this US election season to be such a well-balanced perspective! I feel heartened by your recommendation to focus on the things within the confines of our own personal lives and close personal relationships that we do have the power to effect positive changes within. As a sister Libra, I seriously appreciate your calming and harmonious approach to our upcoming election and aftermath! Looking forward to your future commentary on this subject! Take care, be well!
Thank you so much Susan – I’m a Libra too and I try to find that middle ground. It’s always encouraging to hear that I managed to approach it, anyway. ❤️
Excellent post!
I’ve been deep diving into astrology over the past year and always reading balanced, thoughtful perspectives such as yours.
I’m a pretty heavy Cap (Sun, moon, Jupiter conjunct; Mercury near 0 degrees) but also am a Pluto in Libra generation with Uranus there, too and enough magnanimous Sagittarius to keep my Cap side from capsizing me, ha ha. (Oh, and Saturn off by his lonely midway through Gemini seems to give me the gift of wit!).
Anyway, I bring that all up because I really enjoy applying astrology to politics/society and current events so have read/listened to/watched a fair amount of astrological speculations on the election and the events of the upcoming years and there is a reasonable amount of agreement on the result: Inconclusive!
In addition, that likely we won’t know the results for a while, something similar to the 2000 election, which was also an Election Day when Mercury was retrograde.
Anyway, I close all these types of comments with: Hang in there, love yourself and love each other!
Thank you Bryan! I appreciate your taking the time to leave a comment especially one that is so thoughtful. ❤️
Thank YOU for writing such a thoughtful post, Lynn! Anyway, you’re welcome…always happy to participate in conversations like this.
Hiya, Thank you…what about how the candidate’s horoscopes match our country’s chart?
I understand from reading other astrological posts that the midheaven of our current full moon in D. C. is 3 Sagittarius. Does the midheaven refer to the head of state? I also understand from reading that Biden’s ascendant is 3 Sagittarius.
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks!!
Hi Elizabeth, I wrote about the candidates and their connection to the US chart in previous posts, you can find them all linked here. The placement of the Full Moon Midheaven varied dependent on the location: in Washington DC, which is where most mundane astrologers would look for guidance because that is where the government is seated, the midheaven was actually 6 Libra at the time of the Full Moon so I’m not sure where this 3 Sag figure derives from. You are correct that the birth time that we have for Biden is 3 Sagittarius, but this birth time is from memory and approximate so it can’t really be relied on.
Thanks! Yes I did read through those a few months ago..time to go back and read again. I think the 3 Sag came from the New Moon back in October but I read that 2 weeks ago so… :-) Thanks for reminding us that Biden’s birth time is from memory…and thanks for all you do!

Thoughts?
Could Pluto-Saturn aspecting T’rump’s midheaven signal restriction and destructive transformation in the public sphere instead of facilitating a second term?
The aspect is a trine and it includes Jupiter along with Pluto and Saturn, so we would normally assume something more transformational and less destructive. A trine from Jupiter to the midheaven is assumed to be beneficial, but can just as easily create a liberation and release as success in one’s chosen field.
