Venus is one of the personal planets, governing the aspect of our personality that values connection with others, our aesthetic tastes, and the things we value. Neptune is a transformational planet – one of the outer planets that are invisible to the naked eye but nevertheless exert a strong influence on our human lives. It is often said that Neptune is the “higher octave” of Venus – where Venus relates to human love and the human experience, Neptune’s role is to assist with the process of transcending beyond the human limitations to an experience of divine bliss and a direct connection with the experience of celestial spirituality.
Venus and Neptune are both at 29º today, the “critical” or “anaretic” degree that marks the final phase of the experience of that zodiac sign. (Geeky details: Venus at 29º Gemini about to slip into Cancer, and Neptune lingering at 29º Pisces until it retrogrades at 29º and lingers in late Pisces until next year when it moves into Aries). The 29th degree is like the finale of a fireworks show, where all of the remaining fireworks are shot into the sky for a dramatic conclusion to the event. If the fireworks have already all been used, the finale will be rather wimpy and the same is true for the 29th degree. It can exhibit the strongest effect, or the planet can leave the sign with little fanfare.
Venus relates to our ability to give and receive love, but it also reflects our ability to soften into the very experience of life. There is a softness to Venus that is more difficult to achieve when Venus is in Gemini, flitting about rather like a butterfly which never settles on a particular flower for very long. The hard square aspect from Neptune asks us to take a step back and experience that softening, that vulnerability. It is through this sense of openness that magic can happen.
To help us into that place of softening and receptivity I offer this blessing from John O’Donohue. 💖 May it bring some bright beauty into your life, and mine.
