In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves. —Gautama Buddha
Like many of you I am finding myself struggling to find balance between engagement in the world and the current political situation and the need of the soul to seek peace and equanimity in a rapidly changing world. No matter what your political persuasion, it’s clear that the anger and rage in the world is rising to a feverish pitch, and the journey of Mars through Aries last month triggered an already burning flame into a raging fire.
Political involvement keeps me wound up and upset, angry and frustrated. My inner being seeks the peace and comfort of stillness and solitude (my Jupiter is in the twelfth house of transcendence and I find the greatest meaning (Jupiter) in experiences of merging into Spirit consciousness). And yet throughout history, great sages have remained rooted in the world, seeking positive change for humanity.
When I lived in an ashram back in the 1970s, we were encouraged to withdraw from “The World.” The mundane business of politics and finance and business is a big distraction from spiritual focus. But it occurs to me now, with the vantage point of age, that this kind of focus on our own spiritual growth and experience is, really, selfish in nature. Surely the wisdom and clarity that we gain from progressing on the spiritual path can be used in aiding others and helping to create a more harmonious and peaceful world?
Somehow though we must accomplish this without becoming lost in a morass of rage and despair. The only way that I can imagine this to occur is when we trust that there is a Universal Consciousness that guides humanity ultimately towards light, and that there are nuggets of blessings in every dark moment. With this view, death and life share equal portions of greatness – difficult times are met with faith that to every time there is a purpose and an openness to understand that purpose. This kind of faith (Jupiter) can be nurtured through a constant practice of seeing beyond the mundane details of an event to the gifts and lessons that lie underneath. Meditation helps too – it assists us in forging a stronger connection to this Universal Consciousness.
Your column was the very first place I read about the Uranus/Pluto square. I remember trying to imagine what you were saying was going to happen. It all seemed so unlikely, so impossible. I couldn’t even come close to understanding how drastic our world changes would become!
I thank you for continuing to write about it.
Best,
Paula
It’s an interesting point you make Paula. Often clients want to know what will happen under a particular transit to their own chart, but we almost never can imagine what is around the corner. That is one of the mysteries of life – and what makes it continue to be so fascinating.

Just to say that all is well. God knows the path of the Universe, He directs and let us follow.
Yesterday I came from church and on the way home I was instructed, go home and close your door, and leave the world outside, I am the one who is in your home so dwell in me.
And later on I turned on the tap, and as the water was going down the drain, I actually did hear the words coming through the water drain, Hold on.
Thank you for your letter, now I think for to find my peace and reinforce my trust in the creator I am living through my spirit. It will lead me to when to say and what to say.
Thanks so much, Lynn, for this post. Since last November I’ve lived a constant question: Where does my desire for living peacefully and on my own spiritual path in the Light end, and my duty for standing up and speaking out for truth and justice begin?
I have a feeling I’ll be balancing on the head of this pin for a very long time.

Yes, me as well. I started writing this post a couple of months ago and then it just ripened. All of these situations are learning opportunities but sometimes it’s harder to see the lesson there.
“there are nuggets of blessings in every dark moment”
= TRUE, TRUE, TRUE. This is the balance, just like we have night and day, there is ALWAYS positive within every negative.
“seeing beyond the mundane details of an event to the gifts and lessons that lie underneath.”
I was just reading several of my motivational quotes.
Here are a few of them:
My Attention to Unwanted Can NOT Defy the Law of Attraction… If you ask for an improved situation, and you no longer offering negative thought-Vibrations that are opposite of your desire, your desire must come to you.
But you cannot continue to keep alive within you Vibrational patterns of what you do not want, and receive what you do want. That defies the Law of Attraction.
Think about what you and why you want it. Look for that around you that is good, and feel appreciation. Make lists of the positive aspects. . . . In fact, one of the fastest ways to make your way to a wonderful life is to find any subject that consistently feels good, and focus on that.
I Have Complete Control Over My Own Thoughts… You can find yourself in an endless loop where you explain that you feel negative because of the negative behavior of someone else. But if, instead, you take control of your own emotions and you think an improved thought because it feels better to do so, you will discover that no matter how the negative trend got started, you can turn it around. You have no real control of what anyone else is doing with their Vibration (or with their actions, for that matter), but you have complete control over your own thoughts, Vibrations, emotions, and point of attraction.
Arms up and out, half bent, hands just above head level, facing out. Subtly sway to the left, then to the right, back and forth. Now add a gentle hop, up and down… That’s right, good…
Now add a little, “Whoohooooo, Whoohoooo…..” as you sway. Perfect.
Just 5 seconds of this happy dance, just 5 seconds, even when feeling blue, will always make you smile. Your smile will lift your spirits. Your spirits will summon ancient friends. And your friends will raise you higher into the light.
Works every time.
NOTE: If there is nothing you will do with the fear or frustration, except complain and worry, then stop reading articles & stop listening to the news and start being GRATEFUL for what you have.
Thank you Lynn, It’s amazing how your articles always come at the right time.
Thank you for this post! I feel that it spoke to me directly, Lynn. lol. (Another reminder of “Seek, and you shall find”?)
I wondered why it is that “political involvement keeps me wound up and upset, angry and frustrated.” Yet my “inner being seeks the peace and comfort of stillness and solitude.” I also “find the greatest meaning (Jupiter) in experiences of merging into Spirit consciousness.” I have Jupiter in the 12th also (Aquarius).
I feel better now.
Ah… thank you Lesley. Your Jupiter in Aquarius is super idealistic and somewhat driven for justice but that twelfth house requires a balance of retreat.
I think politics (or anything) upsets us so much because we have no control. While spirituality is totally within our control, and higher spirituality is what our soul desires.
To increase my Peace, Joy, and Harmony, I stopped reading articles and stopped watching the news, except the local weather.
It is a choice, “what we put in our minds” choose wisely.
[…] Because as humans we do tend to resist change, the powerful changes that result from this dance of Uranus (revolution) and Pluto (death and regeneration) often take years to make themselves known. We are seeing this play out on the global stage and sometimes it can be difficult to maintain our equilibrium which I wrote about here. […]
