Another Musing On Predicting the Future

Astrology is a wonderful tool for explaining human behavior, for timing periods of challenge and change, and for providing a map to navigating our way through life most effectively.  What it can’t do, though, is predict an event with any certainty.

That’s not to say that astrologers don’t try.  Earlier in the year, before it appeared possible that Barack Obama could win the election, a panel at the UAC convention included noted Vedic astrologer Joni Patry who predicted that John McCain would win.  The Astrology Chick predicted […]

Astrologer is Sorry For Failure to Predict Cyclone

Continuing on the theme of what can and cannot be predicted, the weather is the next logical topic and evidently a noted Burmese astrologer has publicly apologized for his failure to predict Cyclone Nargis. But in a country like Myanmar where they take astrology seriously, evidently the citizenry depends on their astrologers for this kind of thing:

Myanmar astrologer Myint Lwin is upset because he failed to see Cyclone Nargis coming.

In a country where personal, political and economic destiny are intertwined with mysticism and astrology, he vows to do better next time.

“Many people died, so I’m very sorry,” Myint Lwin […]

“If you could predict death, would you?”

Most professionals agree that predicting death in the chart of a client or a client’s loved one is unethical. Last weekend I watched a movie I had rented called First Snow, a thriller which I really enjoyed in which a sharkish salesman goes for a psychic reading in which the psychic makes some predictions about his business and then has a vision which disturbs him greatly and causes him to terminate the session. The salesman doesn’t believe in any of it, but then the business predictions come true. He also has a health scare, and goes […]

Financial markets defy astrological predictions

I am the first one to admit that astrology cannot predict the future, but that doesn’t keep me from trying. I was not the only one to look at the astrological signatures and predict financial doom in September and October with the eclipse series and the square of Saturn (pessimism and realism) to optimistic Jupiter. Many of us also expected the addition of Neptune to the mix to bring the end (Saturn) of illusions (Neptune).

And it wasn’t just the astrologers – financial experts also predicted a downfall. Bill Fleckenstein, a columnist for CNBC and […]

Predicting the Future

When I was young, I went to psychics for everything. Should I take this job? Should I stay with this man? Hampered by my Libran indecision, I longed for someone to just tell me what to do. Yes, THIS will be the right path to walk, not THAT one.

Over the years, psychics have told me many things. I would be selling condos at the beach (I live in the North Carolina Piedmont). I would marry the man that left me seven times (I didn’t). I would have three children (I have none). Very few specific predictions about the future come […]
