The meaning of the Chiron/Uranus opposition

art link

I recently discovered that I have never written anything specific to this opposition, which is a very important dynamic in the charts of many people born between the early 1950s and the late 1980s. In all, the opposition occurred a total of 41 times, beginning with Chiron in Capricorn opposite Uranus in Cancer in the early 1950s and ending with Chiron in Cancer and Uranus in Capricorn in the late 1980s.

This phenomenon occurs because of the elliptical orbit of Chiron (thanks to […]

Sunday inspiration: The Divine Fires of Wisdom

artist unknown

I am regularly asked to predict when something will occur in someone’s life, or when their problems will be over. There are certainly astrological tools which are used to attempt this kind of prediction, and occasionally they are correct. The question whether we have free or will or whether or future is already decided for us is a vibrant argument among astrologers, and I fall on the side of the power of choice and decisions. Naturally, the ability to think clearly and listen to one’s own instincts varies from person […]

Chicago time zone confusion

Our modern astrology software contains excellent databases, but when a client was born in Illinois during a period when Daylight Savings Time was observed it can get very confusing because there was a law in Illinois in effect until 1959 which required birth times to be recorded in standard time even when daylight time was observed. So you may have a situation in which the baby book says daylight time but the birth certificate, which usually doesn’t include daylight or standard time, will be an hour off.

This often comes […]

Musings on the left and right brain of astrologers

artist unknown?

Astrology requires both a left and right brain. The left brain is required to learn the symbols and their meanings, and the basic techniques to delineate (interpret) a chart. The right brain is necessary for the synthesis of energies and chart factors that are at odds with each other and to devise a theme or set of themes that will be useful to the client.

I had my first astrology reading around 1970 and fell in love with it but it was very difficult to learn astrology in those […]

Liz Greene and the Twelve Temples

artist unknown

A portion of this article was originally posted in 2006.  Liz Greene is quite possibly my favorite astrology writer of all time, and yesterday I dug out her book The Art of Stealing Fire: Uranus in the Horoscope, which is actually a transcription of a seminar on the subject. In it she briefly touches on the work of the Roman writer Manilius, who in his work the Astronomica refers to the astrological houses as “templums.”

In the horoscope, which is a map of the sky at […]

New video: Astrology basics for beginners

I created a little video, hopefully the first in a series, to help non-astrologers to understand more about the astrological updates that I post here and which you will find elsewhere.  I hope you will find it useful!  I plan to product more instructional videos so please let me know in the comments what kind of content you’d like to see.  (These videos will not have transcriptions like the ones I post on Mondays, but there are instructions here on how to turn on captions and transcriptions within the video.)

For daily planetary musings, follow me on […]

Thoughts on the Full Moon at the peak of the retrograde season

art by Joma Sipe

There is something symbolic to me about the Moon reaching its fullness in Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, just as the retrograde season is peaking with Mars turning retrograde on September 9th.  At that point there will be an astounding seven planets retrograde (including Chiron, or six without Chiron which is still astounding).  I did a little research project in which I attempted to find another period in history where there were this many retrograde planets for more […]

It’s true: Astrology can’t predict the state of your marriage

This article was originally posted in 2013.  astrology compatibilityFirst, there is not an astrologer in the world today that makes prediction on marriage success using sun signs.  Thanks to the Internet there is enough information available to the general public about astrology to educate everyone that astrology involves far more than just the sign the Sun was in at the time of your birth.

So I am very surprised that if an academic institution like the University of Manchester was going to conduct an in-depth study on the […]

I’ve revived my YouTube channel

Last year I started a YouTube channel but I couldn’t really decide if it fit me or not.  There are so many YouTube channels, and most of my readers and clients are over 40 which isn’t the YouTube demographic.  So I made a deal with the Universe: I was going to stop making videos but if I reached 400 subscribers I would start again.  The channel languished for months, and then all of a sudden (I suppose because people are home now) there was an infusion of people subscribing to the channel.

I like the idea of a Monday weekly forecast, […]
