Astrological update for the week of September 19-26, 2022
September is one of those months when the Sun moves into a cardinal sign and marks the beginning of a new season. Here in the northern hemisphere we are moving into fall, and my friends Down Under are transitioning to Spring. Either way, there is a whiff of change in the air.
Fall Equinox September 22, 9:03 pm. This month the Equinox marks the point of equality between darkness and light as we move from the mutability of Virgo into the cardinal point of Libra. Each of the cardinal signs marks a solstice or equinox, the turning points in the wheel of the year and the budding of promise as we enter a new season. In the Aries season at the March equinox we are more focused on initiating something new and adventurous, but here in Libra season in September we begin to integrate into our surroundings and learn to find greater balance and harmony. In the spring we plant the harvest, and in the fall we share it.
The astrological chart for the Equinoxes and Solstices are sometimes used to predict the energies of the coming season, and this Equinox chart is an interesting one. The Equinox Sun exactly conjoins Mercury, suggesting that there will be some fast moving events to shift us into the next phase. Jupiter is involved in this dynamic too, expanding the possibilities and opening doorways to new experiences.
The Equinox chart for Washington D.C. has Pluto tightly conjunct the Midheaven, the place of government and rulership, which does not seem ideal for a pre-election season in a nation that is torn by political strife. But that is nothing new because we are in the middle of the U.S. Pluto Return and things are pretty dicey anyway. The chart also shows Uranus just ahead of the Ascendant in the Equinox chart for D.C., with the North Node just behind. The Ascendant is the point of initiation, and this virtually assures that changes are afoot. Thanks to astrology, we understand the energies behind the political changes and how to best navigate them.
The Equinox chart is basically a chart of the transits at that time, so you may not be affected personally more than you normally would by any of these planetary energies. But the Solstices and Equinoxes are portal points and there is a great deal of energy so we will want to be especially careful where we place our attention at these times.
LIBRA NEW MOON SEPTEMBER 25. The Moon will be new in Libra at 5:54 pm on the 25th of September, beginning a new cycle of balance and the evolution of our relationships and ideals. Jupiter is tightly woven into the fabric of the New Moon chart, helping us to see the bigger picture and expand our ideas of what is possible.
The New Moon’s ruler Venus is well aspected in the New Moon chart, helping to facilitate good conversation and connections during this time. The Libra influence will continue for the next couple of weeks since Venus will enter Libra on September 29th, her own sign where we crave the inner balance and harmony that comes from beautiful surroundings and aesthetic.
We can be more sensitive to disharmony under the influence of Venus and Libra, so finding new ways to rebalance will be helpful under the New Moon.
MERCURY IN VIRGO. Mercury will retrograde back into Virgo on September 23rd so care in communication will be even more important. Mercury rules Virgo where it is easily able to apply order to chaos in all matters of information, making these issues more critical. Mercury will remain in Virgo after it turns direct and moves back into Libra on October 10th.
The main message for this week is about finding equilibrium. Under the influence of Libra we sometimes go from one extreme to another as we strive for the center. If we aim for the center we can get there more quickly. 😃
