Today’s Capricorn Full Moon is being advertised in mainstream hype as a SuperMoon but it doesn’t technically meet the standards set by Richard Nolle who came up with that term in the 1970s as a way to describe a lunation, or syzygy, which was at its closest point to Earth and therefore more powerful. At any rate, this Full Moon is powerful in its own right.
At a Capricorn Full Moon we find ourselves at the balance point of the Capricorn/Cancer polarity. The Sun is in Cancer, filtering our outer experiences through the lens of feeling and emotion. But the Moon in Capricorn instills a pressure to accomplish something, to find our footing and achieve a sense of grounded stability. The Full Moon is the peak of the lunar cycle and at this time we might take a look back at the past few weeks and assess where we are today before completing the current lunar cycle by the next New Moon.
The Capricorn Full Moon is ruled by Saturn, and Saturn is active in the sky right now. It is in a sextile to Chiron where it acts as a guide to lead us out of the pain of emotional dramas into stability and greater mental and emotional health. It is in the midpoint of a square to Uranus where it is challenging the areas where we want to break out of a rut but haven’t quite found a successful way in which to do so.
We also have a stressful opposition from Venus to Pluto that is potent right now – by itself it would be a fleeting influence of intense interpersonal drama, but as it is locked into the Full Moon chart it bears more weight. How are our relationships (Venus) and our very sense of self (Pluto) affecting our ability to find this Capricorn/Cancer balance between our “shoulds” (Capricorn) and our longings (Cancer)?
And let’s not forget the intensely Piscean influence of spiritual yearning in the skies at the moment, with both Jupiter (traditional ruler) and Neptune (modern transformational ruler) of Pisces both in their own sign of Pisces. This double Pisces whammy could be the very thing to usher out the age of Pisces in a mad rush of spiritual confusion and enlightenment.
So what does all of this mean for you?! The energies of a Full Moon are potent and full of possibility. Over the next few days we can use these Full Moon energies to bring a hope or desire to fulfillment by using a practical strategy (Capricorn) and balancing our fears and emotional highs and lows (Cancer) against the clear vision of a more hopeful future. 💖
